Jordanna Brown has made a life for herself, running a small coffee shop in the town of Rocky Mount. When she was younger, she watched as humans hunted her werewolf family, and made the decision to run, rather than to fight those with the guns. She has spent years working on controlling her werewolf instincts and to live more as a human. All has been quiet in her town until now. There are rampant rumors that werewolves are indeed a reality, and the townspeople are starting to believe them. To the point where two specially trained dogs have been brought in from Washington DC, where they have more of a werewolf problem.

Her plan is to ignore the threat until Marcos Delgado comes into town. Moving from pack to pack, and town to town, Marcos just happens into Rocky Mount by chance. Recognizing he is a werewolf by scent, he is the first Jordanna has met in many years. Both of their baser instincts take over and they are very physically drawn to each other. But with two wolves in town, it makes them much more noticeable.

I believe Lone Wolf is the debut book by Elinor Carson. It is super short, in some ways a little too short to really tell the whole story but I enjoyed what we get to see of the world. Nothing new and groundbreaking, but a quick glimpse into werewolves trying to succeed in a human dominated world. Although Jordanna has mastered keeping her wolf urges hidden, Marcos is very much still wild. In werewolf form, he has a harder time controlling his natural killing urges  As humans, they still have extraordinary smell, and consume raw meat – so they still have that wolf side to them.

We are told that as in wolf form, “his senses and instincts were stronger, but his ‘human’ side – reasonable thought, logic, conscience – was much more inaccessible.” But when Marcos and Jordanna both change into wolf form, they can easily speak to each other telepathically (I think – at least it comes out in english). This seemed a little odd that they could do this, although other human traits are muted when in wolf form.

The romance is hot and sexy and I enjoyed both characters. There is also some suspense to keep you on your toes. I think these two could have used a little more page time to build up their relationship, but otherwise a pretty good read.

This one sounds pretty good. Not something I’ll probably rush out and
buy but I can add it to the list.

Hmm too short for my tastes. Though the concept is intriguing.
