Weekly Up-Date

January 7, 2012 by Mandi 11 Comments

Here is what we talked about this week at Smexy:

Moira Rogers Truckers v. Outcast Showdown – with EReader Giveaway
AAD Spotlight: Stacey Kennedy
Guest Author: Shiloh Walker
Guest Author: Carly Phillips
B+ Review of Hidden Summit by Robyn Carr
B+ Review of Midnight Reckoning by Kendra Leigh Castle
B+ Review of The Departed by Shiloh Walker
B+ Review of The Daemon Prism by Carol Berg
B Review of Destiny by Carly Phillips
C+ Review of Charmfall by Chloe Neill
D Review of Dirty Beautiful by Jodie Becker
D Review of Assume the Position by T.C. Lee

News from Mandi: I finished Not Wicked Enough by Carolyn Jewel. Adored it. Amazing dialogue and verra good smexy times. Full review to come next month but put this one on your wish list! Next up was A Little Night Magic by Lucy March. The first 50 pages of this one had me laughing..hard. But the plot turned out to be weak. Definitely disappointed in second half of the book. Still enjoyed reading it. My review will be up in a few weeks. Assume the Position by T.C. Lee was my next read – I like to call it, the hero has a huge penis book. Review link above. I decided to read A Facebook Affair by Tara Chevrestt because the heroine had a hearing impairment. It is a very sweet romance and I think the impairment is handled well. I didn’t love the supporting characters or their involvement in the story. Review will be coming next week. I loved and adored the last two books I read this week. My Wicked Little Lies by Victoria Alexander was just fab. The story starts with the hero and heroine already married for two years, but they were both spies and didn’t know it. Really cute, review to come soon. And finally, Bad Boyfriend by KA Mitchell. I talked about it yesterday on the Top Ten. Really smexy book…loved. Has daddy kink in it, which took me a bit to warm up to, but it worked well.

News From Tori: I’ll be honest, It’s been a slow week for me reading wise. I have been trying to finish reading The Mortal Bone by Marjorie M Liu but finding it hard to get excited about it. I love Maxine Kiss and her little demon dudes but when a heroine is constantly bombarded by extenuating factors, it wears you out. I reread Patricia Briggs Alpha Omega series (getting ready for book 3 which releases soon). I adore Charles and Bran. They both give me the good shivers. *brrrr* I am getting ready to start Michelle Rowen’s Reign Fall, the 3rd book in her Demon Princess YA series. Muy excited about this because I didn’t think she was going to continue the series. A funny ,action packed YA about a demon princess, high school life, and her bff who just learned she’s a demon slayer. 0_o Moira Roger’s Hammer Down (2nd in her Children of the Undying series) proved to be a 5 star read for me. Action packed, fantastic world building, and a hero and heroine that set my e reader on FIRE! Which is good since it’s a Kindle Fire. *g* Also was lucky to get an arc of KT Grant’s Xavier’s Loving Arms. A sexy erotic contemporary that deals with some very real and troubling subject matter. A wonderful read with some fantastic characters. All these I will be reviewing soon.

News From May:  With the holiday crush over now I’m enjoying getting back to the business of reading more. This week I read two books. The first was Suzanne Enoch’s A Lady’s Guide to Improper Behavior,  which stars a broken hero and a very proper heroine and was awesome- except that the last third really fizzled out and lost its edge. I also just finished an arc of Sophie Kinsella’s next novel I’ve Got Your Number that releases next month. Brilliant! Very much her usual heroine, but such a delight. Funny and silly and a lot of fun. My review will post next month. Now I need to decide what to read next- I’m leaning towards something paranormal… We’ll see!

News from Helyce: Earlier this week I finished up my review of Midnight Reckoning by Kendra Leigh Castle (link above to review).  I really enjoyed her fresh approach to the creatures of the night that we all love to read about.  Lyra and Jaden’s romance really shined through while moving the story arc forward increasing by hate of Arsinoe.  I can’t wait for Damien’s story next. He’s such a bad boy, though he’s surprised us on a few occasions by doing something nice.  Kendra has teased that Damien and Ariane are really HOT together and that their sex scenes are some of the hottest she’s ever written! Ariane is from the Grigori Dynasty-so pairing her with naughty Damien should be all kinds of fun!  I finished up Fifty Shades of Grey and it’s sequel Fifty Shades Darker by E. L. James as well.  There really are no words.  Mandi told me that others refer to this series as “crack” and I’m inclined to agree.  Christian Grey will worm his way into your brain and your heart and he will not let go.  I really enjoyed the sequel as Christian explores a more vanilla lifestyle than his norm. I also really love the witty banter and word play used in the emails that go back and forth between Christian and Ana.  To top it off, I blew through Kele Moon’s Beyond Eden, Finding Eden and her newest Defying The Odds.  Really enjoyed Paul and Danny in the Eden series.  I’m on the fence about Eve-but they love her so I guess…whatever.  Defying The Odds really surprised me, but in a really good way.  I loved the characters so much and the theme of the UFC/MMA fighters was very cool. I loved Clay!  Desperate for info on the next book, I headed to the author’s site and found a big fat NADA!  I’m guessing Jules is gonna end up with Romeo…anyone else come to that conclusion?

Helcye, when I read “they love her so I guess…whatever”, I about died. LMAO! I’m weak. I just read Beyond Eden last week. It was purdy addictive. Danny broke my heart a little bit though. He seemed to give so much “more”? I’m looking forward to reading Fifty Shades (I’ve heard it is ah-mah-zing!!)& Defing the Odds!

May – I need to read Suzanne Enoch. You read a book a little while ago by her that intrigued me.

Helyce – you made me laugh too! LOL. I wasn’t in love with Eve..but I think their threesome made sense. I do like Danny and Paul together though. I LOVE Danny.

YES! this was my 2and by Enoch, I’ll be reading more. It was the book before this one, and oh how I loved that. I believe it made my best of 2011 list.

Hey Mandi…you know, it was one of those, “if you can’t say anything nice, don’t say anything at all.” I think I just like Danny and Paul. I love Danny too!
