10. Oh wait, we aren’t suppose to have wine with breakfast?
9. Yes, that is a cartoon picture of Ilona Andrews with horns. I didn’t make it! She has it on her blog. I used it because the cover of Gunmetal Magic has not yet been released, but they have put chapter one on their blog! This will be Andrea’s book (in the Kate Daniels world – we are not getting a Kate Daniels book in 2012. It’s okay, we can all hold hands and cry a little together) No, I’m excited for this book – I really like Andrea (and pretty much anything these authors write). For chapter one go here and here. Gunmetal Magic will be released July 31.
8. Fans of Carolyn Crane’s Disillusionists series get excited. She is releasing a novella just for Simon, Devil’s Luck!! Hooray! Due to release early next week. The blurb:
No wager is too outrageous for Simon Fitzgerald, the most reckless of the Disillusionists. His dark secrets drive him to take increasingly extreme risks, but he’s never lived so quite so dangerously as when he hooks up with Midcity’s most powerful prognosticator.
Fawna Brady is tormented by the destinies she sees for those around her. To Fawna, knowledge of the future is a cage she’d do anything to escape. She’s stunned to discover a taste of the freedom for which she yearns at the side of Simon, the one person in the world who despises everything she is, everything she stands for.
Simon’s defiant attitude toward destiny captivates Fawna, but will her love destroy him? And will Simon rush headlong into the delicious doom she offers?
If you are a subscriber to her newsletter, you get it for free right now. I read it last night and it is so good!!! For more info go HERE. (I’ll post a review next week)
7. Lots of new covers were released this week. Some of the highlights are above. Run the Risk by Lori Foster is out this October. Never Seduce a Scot by Maya Banks is out this September. And Echoes at Dawn by Maya Banks is out this July.
I also can’t wait to read the new contemps by Jessica Clare, aka Jill Myles (aka Jessica Sims). Oh I like it already. The Girl’s Guide to (Man)Hunting will be released this May. For more info go HERE.
6. On Monday, at 1pm EST, I will be having a Twitter chat with author Molly Harper. Her new book, Nice Girls Don’t Bite Their Neighbors comes out on Tuesday! I adore this series (Jane Jameson) – the books are always guaranteed to make me laugh. So get your questions ready for Molly Harper and follow us on Twitter – @smexybooks and @mollyharperauth. See you on Monday!
5. It was announced this week that JK Rowling will be writing another book – this time for adults. Taken from this article:
“Although I’ve enjoyed writing it every bit as much, my next book will be very different to the Harry Potter series, which has been published so brilliantly by Bloomsbury and my other publishers around the world. The freedom to explore new territory is a gift that Harry’s success has brought me, and with that new territory it seemed a logical progression to have a new publisher. I am delighted to have a second publishing home in Little, Brown, and a publishing team that will be a great partner in this new phase of my writing life.”
No details as to what the book will be about or release date yet. I’m excited and very curious.
3. You can now print out your own Downton Abbey paper dolls. Including – Matthew’s good luck charm and a dead Mr. Pamuk. *DIES of laughter*
What about Thomas and O’Brien’s “evil soap” and “evil flour”?” Ha!
And of course we can’t leave out the fabulous Dowager Countess. I love these.
2. Happy Birthday to Alan Rickman who turned 66 this week. He still gives me a total lady boner – especially when I hear him read Shakespeare. *swoons* *melts* *falls down dead*.
(Alan Rickman probably doesn’t approve of the term “lady boner”.” Sorry Mr. Rickman)
And while we are on the topic of boners…I posted this pic of Channing Tatum on facebook recently, and someone pointed out that he could basically play ANY romance hero. Sports? Yep, he has a basketball. Military? He has the army duffel going on. Cowboy? Yep he has a hat. I bet he looks mighty fine in a suit too. And if anyone had any question….
*shifty eyes*
(thanks Amy!)
1. I’m continuing with the Harry Dreseden series with Fool Moon (bk 2) this weekend. I’m listening to them (and I know I’ve said this but James Marsters is the best narrator!!!) Have a happy Friday!
Amy J says
LOL…Glad to have contributed to the Eye Candy cause. Channing can be any hero he wants as long as he is in my bed!
Mandi says
LOLOL. “bed hero” – yes, I like this.
MinnChica says
Yeah, if Channing told me he was my hubs, I would be ALL over that! :D
Enjoy your audio books this weekend. It’s going to be a m/m read-a-thon for me! Lots of great books are in my near future, I can tell!
Mandi says
Keep me updated on your read-a-thon!
MinnChica says
The read-a-thon was awesome, although I didn’t get as much read as I wanted b/c I got food poisoning on Saturday. :(
On Friday I finished the Adrien English books, and I know you loved them, but I didn’t think Jake was able to redeem himself in my eyes. He’s a douche and the series was just okay overall for me. I also read that Ava Marsh book you gifted me. She writes totally smexy stuff, but I’m still not a fan of historical erotica.
On Saturday I got through MOST of Tigers & Devils. Loved. Loved loved loved loved! Need to find and stalk this author. *wink*
On Sunday I finished T&D and then also read Faith & Fidelity by Tere Michaels. It. Was. Awesome. I can’t wait to read more in the series, but need Nook to get their ish together and add all the books!!
Today I’m going to try and finish Zero at the Bone.
After that, I might have to hammer out some review books. :)
Mandi says
In my eyes Jake was redeemed. I don’t know – maybe it is just because it has been awhile since I’ve read them. I’ve mellowed out about him ;)
T&D is one of my all time fav books. Man I love it. And F&F is really good too.
Love Zero at the Bone too!! You had a good weekend!! ;)
blodeuedd says
Jill Myles books! I want :D
LOL, I love Pamuk in the corner
Mandi says
Pamuk in the corner makes me LOL every time
Julie@my5monkeys says
I love the Matthew and Mary dolls. Loved the top 10 and I will take Alan Rickman with you too. Swoon
Mandi says
Oh goodie – Alan will let us share him, I know it :)
KB/KT Grant says
Channing Tatum does nothing for me. He can’t act his way out of a paper bag. Bah.
Mandi says
But he can stand there and look so bad ass ;)
Jenny says
I have to agree with KT, painful to watch yet still awfully pretty to look at. He’s one of those guys that when he starts talking you put your hand over his mouth and say “Shhh, just stand there and look hot, m’kay?” That’s not sexist at all is it, uh-uh, no way. *shakes head and tries to look innocent*
Mandi says
Like Jason Momoa. LOLOL. Shhhh..mr. pretty. just stand there please.
Jayhjay says
I love the paper dolls of the Dowager Countess all have the exact same facial expression!
Mandi says
I know! LOLOOL
helyce says
OMG-paper dolls. Which season did Mary do the nasty with Pamuk??? I’m so behind in that Maya Banks contemporary. No doubt Channing Tatum is HOT, but is he dirty in that photo or are his abs, enhanced and highlighted????
I know, I know, who cares…he’s a hottie!
I thought Simon had something going on with one of the other disillusionists???? Guess I better read book 3!
Mandi says
Pamuk is in season one..oh yes..drama with Mary!
Simon always has a lot going on ..LOL. The heroine in this book is Fawna, who was childhood friends with Packard (she is in bk 3).
Hell Cat says
*sighs* I can’t justify buying Molly right now, even though I flove Jane something so fierce I’d almost call her my sister. Darn you expensive Mini parts.
Also, I wanna be the blonde on the Alpha Male cover. *drools* Especially if you add Channing on the cover.
I’m thinking of Chantum on every Jaci Burton cover ever now, too.
And, and Downton Abbey. You do realize I use Maggie Smith’s dowagering as the standard for every London society wicked dowager now, right? Because she’s so dang epic!
Mandi says
Oh – Channing needs to become a cover model. oh yes!!
I adore Maggie Smith – yes – she represents all dowagers! LOL
Hell Cat says
And! As a good PR spin, any money earned as a cover model (nominal, of course) goes to charity! See! Everyone wins. Droolers of the covers, the charity, bean counters, and the purdy, purdy man with the body that won’t quit. I really ought to be paid for being an evil genius.
What’s better is to combine Dowager with McG’s personality. Someone needs to write that into a historical romance, seriously. I mean, there’s usually one or two less than fashionably honest mother-in-laws of doom.
Helyce says
Isn’t Channing the actor that was on Ellen not too long ago who confessed to being a stripper before his movie career took off?
Mandi says
I think so. this excites me. LOL
Brie says
James Marsters as in Spike?! *dies*
Mandi says
Yes. His voice. omg.
Carolyn Crane says
Those dolls are just fabulous. I love the two expressions of Elizabeth Montgomery.
But most fabulous of all: Making the Smexy top ten!!! Thanks for the shout!!!
Mandi says
;)
Lexi says
Hahaha, I wouldn’t question it either!
Mandi says
*giggles* I’m glad I’m not the only one ;)
aurian says
Great top ten again, am curious what kind of book JK has been writing. Love the covers of the new books too. Still have not watched Downton Abby, but as everyone loves it so much, high time to make the time for it.
Mandi says
Someone on Twitter said there is/was a rumor it will be a crime book? But who knows. I’m very curious!!
KyleeJ says
James Marsters. In my ears? *whooshes off to the library**
Mandi says
Yes! Omg…SO much fun. I just adore his voice.
Angie G. says
I love the top ten. I look forward to it every Friday and it always makes me smile!
The Downton dolls are awesome! Thanks for sharing them with us.
Mandi Schreiner says
Thanks so much :)
I love those paper dolls. LOL. Makes me laugh every time I look at them
bookster says
yay!! for JK Rowling writing an adult book. I really liked the Harry Potter books but they were so CHILDREN ugh…. but I loved her writing style and can’t wait to see what comes from that.
What are you people talking about Channing not acting well?? ;) He is adorable! When he is on Ellen he is hilarious. He is NOT just a pretty face dammit!! hee heee…
Mandi says
I must google Channing on Ellen so I can see this for myself! ;)
