News From Mandi: Trancehack by Sonya Clark is a futuristic-paranormal that has the potential to be really good however it didn’t quite come together for me. The hero is a detective and the heroine is a witch and the world is kind of cool. But it was kind of slow and the romance didn’t do it for me. Full review coming.
Heating up the Holidays anthology has two stories that were fab and one that didn’t work for me. I DNF’d Lisa Renee Jones story – it had a really cold hero and his assistant. It wasn’t good. But the Mary Ann Rivers story I give an A grade to. The heroine is amazing and the hero is swoony. I also adored the Serenal Bell story. I’m reviewing this book on Tuesday so I’ll go into all the details then. But highly rec it.
Once a Rake by Eileen Dreyer is the first I’ve read of her. It was an okay historical. I liked the heroine a lot – after her husband died she is left to fend for herself on a small estate. The hero is wanted for an attempted murder which he is innocent of, and ends up hiding on her grounds, injured. The highlight of the story for me is the heroine’s pig. LOL. Review coming this week.
News From May: This week was a busy one, but I snuck in Zoe Archer’s Winter’s Heat, a short but hot novella from her Nemesis series. I also read the Wicked Wallflower by Maya Rodale which I adored. I can’t recommend this enough as a fun light historical. It hit all the right notes for me. Now I’m working on a holiday anthology (Christmas on Main Street) and so far it is amusing me, but isn’t particularly good.
Now I’m off to catch up on my stories (aka Scandal and Arrow!) and then continue on my quest to read loads of holiday romances. Reviews to come for all!
