News from Mandi: One Night of Scandal by Elle Kennedy was sexy and fun. It’s book two in her One Night series, that surrounds three friends who own a nightclub. You can read them separately but I suggest reading in order. They are quick reads. This book gives us a hero and heroine who know they shouldn’t fool around but they just can’t help themselves. Review coming soon.
Another book with a similar feel is The Viper by Kele Moon. I talked about it yesterday on my top ten and will post a scene tomorrow for smex scene sunday so I won’t go too much into it. Except to say great characters and super sexy. I had not read Kele Moon for a while and I’m glad I picked her back up. I like her voice.
Tori and Sheena love Jamie Begley’s The Last Riders series – I picked up book one, Razer’s Ride but the heroine annoyed me so much I put it down. Sorry Tori and Sheena! Maybe the series gets better as it goes. I also DNF’d Don’t Judge Me by Sylvie Fox and Dead Shifter Walking by Kim Schubert – we’ll be doing a DNF post soon and I’ll review those there.
Mind Sweeper by AE Jones is a debut book which kicks off a new paranormal series. It’s kind of like a paranormal Charlie’s Angels – the heroine and her two sidekicks, a demon and vampire, investigate supernatural crime. There is a strong mystery with lots of action – I think the book gets weighed down a bit by all of the mystery stuff and the romance is written a little awkward – but at the same time it was a nice read. I’ll review soon.
All’s Fair in Lust and War by Amber Page didn’t work so well for me. The hero and heroine have an anonymous fling in Vegas, only to go back to New York and realize the hero has been hired by heroine’s firm to work on a new advertising campaign. I didn’t understand why they were attracted to each other. I’ll be reviewing soon.
I’m currently reading The Unsuitable Secretary by Maggie Robinson – virgin hero – I’m excited. Then I’m trying When the Lights Go Down by Amy Jo Cousins.
News from Tori: It’s been an average week at Casa Benson. We have a new kitten. I have no idea where he came from but he appeared a few days ago and he used his evil kitten eyes to make T fall in love with him so I guess he’s staying for a while.
Wickedly Dangerous by Deborah Blake-First in a urban fantasy series that revolves around the Russian fairy tale-Baba Yaga. A lightweight story that offers humor and mystery with a resolvable conclusion. Enjoyable though I wasn’t blown away. Review to come.
The Turning Season by Sharon Shinn-I adore Ms. Shinn’s shapeshifter series in that it is written in contemporary form. It doesn’t glamorize this race of people, they have no supernatural abilities beyond shifting, but rather shows the trials and tribulations they go through to merely survive day-to-day. My review will appear in NOV issue of RT Book Reviews Magazine.
Part-Time Lovers by Shelley Munro-This is a squeal in a sense to Farmer Wants A Wife which releases soon. My advice? Read that one first. Super sexy with some very nice kink, Part Time Lover deals with broken hearts and second chances. Review to come.
Four Times a Virgin by Suzi Love–This was an impulse buy that surprised me with it’s depth and charm. A woman’s need for revenge and a man’s need for redemption place them at odds as this unlikely couple blackmails and coerce their way to true love. Steamy sexual tension, witty banter, and a look at women’s rights in the 18th century made this a fast satisfying read.
Lights to my Siren by Lani Lynn Vale–I adore Vale’s Freebird series so was delighted when she sent me this one. Lights To My Siren is the first book in Vale’s spin off from her Freebird series-Heroes of the Dixie Warden MC. As always, Vale pens a fast paced story that is heavier normal on the romance rather than the conflict. As all Vale’s books, the MC aspect is low key. We do get to meet all the Dixie Warden’s and learn more about this particular world. Vale intertwines these two series effortlessly and produces another engaging, sexy, and fun book that hooked me from page one.
Night’s Honor by Thea Harrison-Harrison turns her sights to the Nightkind in her latest installment. A softer romance with multiple plotlines that offer readers a deeper more in-depth look at the Vampyres and their political troubles. Though not as action packed as her others, it’s still an engaging read. AND, the hero is a ROMANTIC. *swoon* Review to come.
One Night More by Mandy Baxter–A book I was looking forward to very much ended up being a DNF for me. I don’t think cop or military romantic suspense is for me. I found both protagonists just to annoying and predictable.
Reasonable Doubt (VOL #3) by Whitney G. Williams– Best serial in the series. Racy sex scenes, lots of dirty talk, answers to some burning questions, and the heroine FINALLY pulls on her big girl panties and took control of her life. *fist pump*
Cash’s Fight by Jamie Begley–Jamie Begley’s Last Riders series is a form of crack for me. Cash’s Fight, in my opinion, is her best to date. A second chance love trope about a young lady who has always loved the hero. His arrogance causes him to hurt her badly and she is finally done pining after a man she no longer respects or even likes. Of course, this is when cupid’s arrow hits him and he does even more stupid things to try to get her back.Plenty of laughter and smexy times follows this strong, intelligent, take no shite heroine, and a hero who can’t see the forest for the trees.
This weekend I am reading Sarah J Maas’s Heir of Fire.
