Mandi News:
Tower of Thorns by Juliet Marillier is book two (review of book one) in her really fun fantasy series. It’s not sexy fantasy romance – more just fantasy but I love it. It follows the adventure of Blackthorn, a female healer set on revenge, and her best friend Grim, a big guy who has a dark past. They both have a dark past that they have to work through. Review coming
A Love to Last by Kelsey Browning was an okay small town contemporary romance. It revolves around a prophecy and a boot maker. I liked the heroine but the hero comes across flat. And I got a little tired of the prophecy stuff after a while. Review to come.
I DNF’d the m/m Shiver by Jocelynn Drake and Rinda Elliott. The group of friends we get introduce to – just felt so unrealistic. I couldn’t picture these guys in real life. The things they would say and their actions – were so ramped up sexually and I think too over-the-top alpha. I couldn’t get into it.
Tori News:
CEO’s Pregnant Lover by Leslie North. A cinderella-esque/boss-secretary trope featuring a crabby overly dominant hero who falls for his young struggling attractive assistant. Not a bad story though it seems to stay on a singular level, never really giving us a reason for their all-consuming attraction for one another beyond their looks.
The Game Plan by Kristen Callihan. The third book in Callihan’s steamy hot and humorous romance contemporary series-Game On-brings us the story of sexy Dex and flighty Fi. Dex will blow you away with his steady charm, smouldering looks, and dirty, dirty mind. Review to come.
Leveled by Jay Crownover. This bridge between Crownover’s Marked Men series and her spin off-Saints of Denver- will please fans as we FINALLY get Orlando’s book and get to meet the man who loved Remy more than the world. Review to come.
Spring Enchantment by Christina Cordaire. I picked this one up after reading Stardust of Yesterday as part of the Haunting Hearts series. It starts out rather well with a widow whose abusive marriage has put her off men forever and a retired military captain looking to settle down. Add in a pair of ghosts and rumors of treason and I was intrigued. But as the story revealed I found my interest waned and by the halfway mark I was bored silly.
Rumor Has It by Elizabeth Grace. A rockstar romance about a hip hop artist and a woman he meets while she is breaking into his rental home. Ok, she’s not really but it is a meet cute that works and starts this couple on a whirlwind romance. The story is nice, sexy, and predictable. Insta love and emotional drama surround the couple as they try to survive the hero’s celebrity status. A predictable conflict drives them apart only to be resolved quickly and used to tear down all their remaining walls. A quick fast beach read.
With Visions of Red by Trisha Wolfe. This dark erotic romance suspense will keep you on your toes as a behavioral analyst works to find a sadistic serial killer before he strikes again while dealing with her own dark issues. This is a series so each one ends on a mild cliffhanger.
I DNF’d both Shifter by Jennifer Reynolds & One King’s Way by Samantha Young. This weekend I’ll be reading Stop At Nothing by Kate SeRine.
