News from Mandi: Thieves’ Honor by Jamaila Brinkley started off really cute – it’s a historical paranormal with a heroine who is a thief and a hero who is a bit shy and awkward – and definitely not a thief. But they team up together to try to find some magical artifacts that have gone missing. The first half of the book had me chuckling…second half fell a little flat for me but the overall story is cute. My disappointment however is the romance – which felt like it was thrown in at the end just to give us a HEA. No courtship, no sexual tension. Full review coming this week.
I DNF’d Tell Me No Lies by Magnolia Smith – I just couldn’t get into it. Just one of those books that all I can say is, not for me.
Deep Dark by Laura Griffin is an excellent romantic suspense book. Creepy serial killer, enough suspense to keep you guessing, a twenty-four year old hacker heroine and a thirty-nine year old detective hero who thinks she is WAY too young for him. But then she kisses him and some sparks fly. Definitely more suspense than romance, but I still liked their relationship. Review coming.
Sugar Daddy by Sawyer Bennett is the start of a trilogy. There is a cliffhanger ending. I didn’t love it – but I didn’t hate it either. Took me a long time to warm up to the hero – he came across as very self-absorbed to me. Heroine is dealing with being raped (by hero’s bff). I don’t know – I’m reviewing this coming week – I’ll sort out my thoughts then.
Up next is Marrying Winterborne by Lisa Kleypas. I hope I like it better than the first book!

Thanks for the Laura Griffin mini-rec. I’ve been casting about for a mystery or suspense to read, and I remember really liking Twisted (the tracers series). That one also featured a hero who was in his late thirties, or was he older?, and a rookie cop heroine.

Yes – I enjoyed that one too,
Her previous release was really good too
