Geeky meets kinky in this second too-hot-to-handle novel in the Slices of Pi series by RITA-nominated author Elia Winters, which follows the erotic adventures of the employees at PI Games, a gaming company based out of sultry Florida.
Iris Parker never planned on ending up in HR because, let’s face it: HR isn’t the most glamorous position in the world. She took a comfortable job and always planned on leaving when something better came along, but before she knows it, she’s thirty and the HR director for PI Games. Even though she likes her coworkers, there’s no excitement in the job for her, and Iris is worried that she’ll lose her spark. Luckily, Iris’s romantic life provides some thrills—living the confirmed bachelor life, when she wants her bed warm, she can find company, and in her sights at the moment is the cute pastry chef at her favorite bakery.
Owen Hobbs has noticed the gorgeous businesswoman making eyes at him when she comes in for coffee and sweets, but he’s not the type of guy who dates much anymore. Unfortunately for him, it didn’t take long in his sporadic dating history to learn that most women aren’t interested in taking charge in bed, which is what he really craves. Working early mornings at the bakery keeps him from the nightlife where he might meet someone who can fulfill his needs, so he’s resigned himself to fantasies and pretty much given up on the dating scene altogether. But when Iris’s advances become too much to resist, Owen finds himself revealing his desire to be sexually dominated…the only question is, is she the right woman for the job?
This is second in a series and picks up almost immediately after the previous one ended. It can probably be read as a stand alone, but probably better served by reading the first one to get a little more background on Iris. I have really enjoyed everything I have read by this author – she has a very sex and body positive voice, and I love that.
If I read the blurb a little better, I would have been hesitant to read this book because female domination is not something I usually go for. I think because I typically see it in books that are more BDSM heavy that doesn’t speak to me very much. Anyway, this book is extra dirty and I would say it borders on being erotic romance. I have tagged this a “home only read” in my kindle.
Iris is a HR director at a small company and feeling a little stalled in her life. Owen is a confident baker/owner of a bakery and doesn’t date much. Iris has seen him working at the bakery and always found him attractive, on a whim after a later night she stops in the bakery. They hit it off and Iris invites him to join her on her vacation at the beach. Owen is interested by hesitant because he hasn’t found the right kind of woman for him, that can meet his desires.
They didn’t understand that for all his power, he craved submission. He wanted to be challenged and forced to yield. He hadn’t yet met a woman who was interested.
Owen opts to meet Iris at the beach and they have sex and Iris picks up on the fact that Owen gets off on her being in charge. He proposes that they continue their relationship and gives Iris books to research how female dominated relationships work. Iris isn’t already in the lifestyle/scene, and that was nice, that it wasn’t so easy of a fit. This was something new for Iris and slightly different for her. But it is pretty clear that she gets off on it to. She really gets into the planning of scenes and giving the Owen the opportunity to please her. And again I will mention that this has some hot sex. (putting under a spoiler tag for explicit language)
“I’ve been quite wet thinking about you coming here.” She released his hair to trace her finger down the side of his face, and he closed his eyes at the tenderness in her touch. When he did, though, she tugged his hair again and made him open them. “You don’t need your hands for this. Show me what a good little pussy eater you are.”
You may need a fan while you read this book.
Iris is hesitant to enter into a full on relationship with Owen because she’s scared of her feelings. Owen is a good man and is patient with her as they navigate this new relationship. I enjoyed both of them and their story.
This book was very well written, solid story, and hot sex. It was a little bit out of my comfort zone but not so much that I didn’t want to finish it. The next story in the series is a M/M and I am excited to read that.
