Angela’s Monday Mornings

September 17, 2018 by Angela 1 Comment

Happy Monday y’all! Hope everyone had a wonderful weekend!

My review of For the Duke’s Eyes Only by Lenora Bell will post later today. Be sure to come back and check it out.

What I read:

The Billionaire’s Wake-Up-Call Girl by Annika Martin

This book made me laugh and it’s super sexy. Sheena wrote a fantastic review that will make you want to one-click and push aside your entire TBR stack to read ASAP.

Check out Sheena’s review here.

What I read in KU:

Dirty Headlines by L.J. Shen
Contemporary Romance
September 4, 2018 Self Published

Favorite Quote:

“I can’t fall in love Célian. I’m broken.
“Good. Let’s be broken together, then.”

Sooooo…. this book starts out super sexy and then just gets dirtier and dirtier with every turned page. Dirty Headlines is a mix of the office romance/boss-employee/enemies to lovers tropes. The heroine, Jude, is unemployed, broke, grieving over her sick father and slightly depressed after finding her long time boyfriend boinking his boss when she meets the hero, Célian, in a bar one evening. They have a filthy one night stand that ends with Jude cleaning out Célian’s wallet and leaving with no goodbye. Which means she is absolutely horrified to discover he is her boss when she starts a new job several months later.

Célian is an alphahole to the extreme. There were several times at the beginning of the book when I wanted to reach through the pages and punch him in the dick. He is the son of the majority shareholder of the news channel where he and Jude work and is currently in a battle with his lecherous father for control of the company. He is cold, ruthless, and doesn’t seem to give a crap about anything or anyone. But he wants Jude and despite his personal rules that prohibit him from forming a relationship with an employee, it doesn’t take long before they are enjoying a bit of *ahem* down time in a darkened office.

While Jude and Célian have plenty of internal conflicts that make their relationship angsty and drama filled to the extreme, it’s the external conflicts almost prevent them from finding their HEA. Mainly, Célian’s fake/not really fake relationship with his fiancée. Yes, you read that correct, fiancée. I mean there are reasons why it’s fake/but not really fake, but when she is first introduced I had a moment where my brain caught fire and I almost put down this book because cheating is my #1 no-no in romance. I got through it and kept reading and even understood the whole situation, but for a minute there…..

In the end I enjoyed this book. I made it through Célian acting like a horny douche with control issues for the first half, I made it through the fiancée introduction, and I was glad I did. I enjoyed Jude quite a bit and liked that she had zero trouble telling Célian to take a hike. Célian turned it around there at the end and turned out to be a good match for Jude. Their HEA was nice and I thought the ending with scenes of them at their wedding was quite lovely.

Final Grade- B-/C+
