Kini’s Friday Kisses

October 26, 2018 by Kini 2 Comments

The past week of reading hasn’t been great for me.

Sin & Ink by Naima Simone– I picked this up because it contains one of my favorite tropes/themes, unrequited love. The hero, Knox is “in lust with his dead brother’s wife.” When well done, this trope lends itself to emotional angstyness that I LOVE. But this story fell flat for me for a few reasons.

  1. According to the blurb, Knox is a retired MMA fighter, but part of the conflict is him maybe getting back in the ring. I don’t like MMA books. I only picked this up because it said he was retired. But I was willing to overlook this point and skim through where it was mentioned.
  2. I never really understood why Knox and Eden liked each other, except sex. There wa a lot of sex in this book. And that is fine. But it wasn’t what I was expecting. It borders on being an erotic romance. I wanted more internal emotion and I didn’t get it.
  3. Knox continually refers to wanting to make Eden “his”. Right now I am in a headspace where I can’t handle heroes that act like women are things and not people. Never does he say he wants her to be his girlfriend or partner, but just his.

All this to say that I DNF this book. I would be willing to try this author again at some point, but right now this book wasn’t for me.

Grade: DNF

I had another meh read this week and I need more time to gather my thoughts. So maybe next week. Right now I am reading the new one by Sarina Bowen, Fireworks that pubs in mid-November.

This was one of my DNFs too for basically the same reasons. I did L.O.V.E. the cover though.
