Contemporary Romance:
The Kiss Quotient by Helen Hoang– Here’s a quote from my review “The Kiss Quotient is the very best thing I can think of… a debut novel that kept me up late into the night telling myself “just one more chapter” until I couldn’t keep my eyes open anymore.” Read the rest of my review here.
Historical Romance:
Band Sinister by KJ Charles– A quote from my review:
“I loved how their entire relationship was framed around consent. I loved that this couple was completely honest with each other about their feelings for each other, and their feelings for other characters who held important places in their lives. It made their HEA all the more delightful and believable.” Read the rest of my review here.
Wicked and the Wallflower (The Bareknuckle Bastards #1) by Sarah MacLean– This was the first book in Ms. MacLean’s new series and I couldn’t wait to get my hands on it. I’m a sucker for a bad boy anti-hero with a heart of gold who is vanquished by love. I’m also a sucker for a quirky heroine who happens to know how to pick a lock SO THIS BOOK WAS PERFECT. Read my full review here.
A Duke in the Night (The Devils of Dover #1) by Kelly Bowen– This is the first book in a new series and the first book I’ve ever read by this author. I loved it. I adored this couple. Together. Apart. Adored. The heroine is so wonderfully independent and clever, and the hero gets it and gets her and *happy sigh* Read my full review here.
Fantasy Romance/Fantasy/Urban Fantasy:
Phoenix Unbound (Fallen Empire #1) by Grace Draven– I’ve never made any secret of the fact that I love pretty much everything this author writes, so this being on my best of list shouldn’t be a surprise. I loved the world-building in this fantasy romance. I’m super excited for the release of the second book in 2019. Read my full review here.
Iron and Magic (The Iron Covenant #1) by Ilona Andrews– I wasn’t sure if this author duo could redeem Hugh enough to make him believable as the hero in his own series. BUT THEY DID AND I LOVED HIM. They also paired him with the absolute best heroine.
Magic Triumphs (Kate Daniels #10) by Ilona Andrews- The final Kate Daniels book was everything I hoped for. Everything I needed in order to say goodbye to my favorite Urban Fantasy couple. I will miss Kate and Curran. Read my full review here.
How to Live an Undead Lie (Beginner’s Guide to Necromancy #5) by Hailey Edwards– I actually had the fourth book in the series, Undead Waltz, on my best of list, but this book released early and every time this series has a new release it becomes my new favorite. If you aren’t reading this series you really should be. (I <3 Linus forever.) Read my full review here.
A Court of Thorns and Roses (A Court of Thorns and Roses #1) by Sarah J Maas– Even though I’ve had this book sitting on my TBR list for what seems like forever (it released in 2015) it wasn’t until Mandi started raving about it that I finally picked up and literally could not stop reading. Then I called my bff and made her read it. I’m currently on book three and can’t believe it took me so long to pick this series up.
Spinning Silver by Naomi Novik– After reading Uprooted, which is absolutely fantastic by the way, I couldn’t wait to read something else by this author. This book was quite different from Uprooted, but just as good. And as a bonus you get THREE badass heroines who save the day. Read my full review here.
Honorable Mentions:
The Clockwork Boys and The Wonder Engine by T. Kingfisher- These books made me laugh out loud and have one of the best ensemble of characters I’ve ever read. I’m grinning right now thinking about one hilariously funny horseback riding scene. Read my full review here.
Trail of Lightening (The Sixth World #1) by Rebecca Roanhorse– This debut urban fantasy novel was exactly what I needed this year. Fresh, interesting, with wonderful characters, I can’t wait to get my hands on book two. Read my full review here.
