I managed to read to Holiday novellas this week and both were pretty cute.
Merrily Ever After by Jenny Holiday. This is part of her Bridesmaids Behaving Badly series and probably better enjoyed if you have read at least one of the previous books. This one feature Elise and Jay who got married and the first book although the first book was not their love story.
This was a cute and emotional holiday novella about a couple who is already married working through some things. This isn’t a spoiler but the heroine, Elise, finds out she’s pregnant in this book. And the couple has to work through how are they going to deal with this. As they had previously planned to be child-free.
One of the things that Holiday does extremely well is portraying female friendships between the four main characters. I recommend this series on that fact alone. And in this book the four women spend time discussing Elise’s options once she discovers she is pregnant. Give me more books where the default on discovering pregnancy isn’t carrying it to term.
Overall this was a very quick and solid read and I was invested in the main couple working out their troubles and rediscovering their happily ever after.
Tinsel in a Tangle by Ainslie Paton. If you follow me as a reader you know that I really enjoy Paton’s voice. It’s very distinct and was in full effect in this story.
The story is told in duel points of view, past and present, and covers how Shelby and Adam’s love story began. This is a very sweet story (ie. no sex) and what we do get from the couple is how they met and learning more about how their attraction bloomed. It was a pretty fast, yet enjoyable read. This kind of reminded me of Rainbow Rowell’s book Attachments, because of the work setting and the sweet level. However, it should be noted that this book is more of a HFN with its ending.
It was a solid read and could be a good introduction for someone interesting in trying out Paton’s stories.
