I’m holding a fundraiser for my goddaughter, Rebecca Gale. All proceeds from every book I sell today, (Sept. 12), will go toward her.
Rebecca’s the daughter of my best friend. I’ve known her since she was born. She’s a gorgeous, vibrant, 32-year-old woman who was recently diagnosed with a rare cancer. Just two years ago, my husband and I were at Rebecca’s wedding in Vermont, celebrating a beautiful moment in her life. This past year, Rebecca became pregnant, and we were all overjoyed.
Rebecca lost the baby in the first trimester. While everyone thought that was the worst possible news, it wasn’t. Over the summer, she was diagnosed with a molar pregnancy — basically, it was growth that formed inside the womb at the beginning of a pregnancy, and it became cancerous. It is a rare and fast growing cancer.
The good news: it’s highly curable. Rebecca’s undergoing chemotherapy. But obviously this has turned her life, and that of her husband and my best friend, upside down. I don’t need to tell you that cancer and medical treatments are expensive, even with insurance. I want so much to help, and am doing what I know best: selling books.
