One year ago today, I officially adopted Kitty-Scarlett. Just 5 days prior I made an impulsive decision to adopt her. I’d been thinking for years about adopting a pet, but it’s a huge commitment. But in early October I was really feeling my aloneness with my son in college and my parents announcing they would be relocating to Nebraska. I just knew I needed some other living being at home with me. I need to feel less alone. I went to my local shelter with the intention of just looking. I knew I needed to have a feeling about the cat I would adopt. I couldn’t just pick any random one. I saw this beauty staring at me. She has the most beautiful eyes and fur. The shelter helper told me she was a lap cat and very sweet but also had at least one day where they designated her a being temperamental. Long story short, I knew she needed to be mine. I got to officially adopt her on October 10th. She hid for the first few days and since that day she crawled out from under the bed, she has completely taken over my life.
I take a picture of her almost daily. She’s the star of my Instagram. She’s given me lots of ridiculous stories over the last 365 days. Several of which include how she made me bleed. She’s the sweetest, most loving and loyal cat ever. She waits for me to come home. She comes running out of the room when I get home. She meows at me. She lays on the couch with me while I read. She likes to sit next to me when I’m working at my desk. She follows me to the bathroom. She wakes me up in the middle of the night when she’s really hungry. She makes me not feel so alone.
In celebration of her one year adoptiversary, Kitty Scarlett has teamed up with a couple of our favorite publishers to giveaway some books and is willing to pull some books of our ARC shelf too. Below is a list of books that the winner (US only) will receive a copy of each of the following books:

I just read an amazing Harlequin Presents (I know HPs aren’t too everyone’s taste, but trust me on this one)—THE MAN SHE LOVES TO HATE by Kelly Hunter. It has a very interesting premise: for years, the heroine’s mother was the mistress of the hero’s (married) father, causing the mother and daughter (but not, of course, the wealthy adulterer) to be ostracized by their small town. Years later, the heroine and hero are trapped together in a damaged ski-lift gondola during an avalanche. It’s a beautifully-written book, very emotional, and highly-recommended.

My dogs make me happy and honestly give me the strength to keep on going on days I think I’ve run out of steam. They also watch over my Dad, which is really helpful since he’s got medical issues but is feisty as heck. I couldn’t imagine life without my crazy dogs.

Over the summer we lost one of our cats to liver cancer. My son was especially sad. Two weeks ago we adopted a new kitten. Kittens are bonkers and he is driving us nuts but in a good way. He is making us happy again, especially my son.

Kini, thanks for the Kitty Scarlett stories. She’s beautiful.
I read American Witch by Thea Harrison recently and enjoyed it. I read Dragon Bound many years ago, but fell behind on the Elder Races series and never caught up. I might try again.
DiscoDollyDeb, I’m a Kelly Hunter fan also and glad that she seems to be writing again for HQ Presents. I liked her Bennett Family series although I haven’t read it in a while.
DiscoDollyDeb says
@JTReader: Hunter write two books for a series called Outback Brides: MAGGIE’S RUN and EMMA. Both were excellent. THE MAN SHE LOVES TO HATE was published in 2011, but I only discovered Kelly Hunter this year and have been glomming her backlist.

Happy Adoptiversary! All of our pets have been adopted, too. I miss our kitty but the new little dog is a lap dog so she helps make up for it. Big dog is too big for those cuddles though she is my shadow and follows me everywhere. ❤️

Enjoy your adoption anniversary, Kitty Scarlett and Kini! (Hey, all our names start with the letter K!)
A new hobby for me is playing Mah-jongg (National League version) which I began this summer. [My doctor recommended more exercise, and the place I play is a two mile walk from home.] There was a learning curve, but I’m now comfortable.

I love all the pics of Kitty Scarlet and stories of her shenanigans! Pets are the best.
I have two pups and they are my “boys” as I don’t have any kids. They are the best of friends and provide me with so many laughs and love. They’re my constant companions, with one, if not both, constantly by my side and monitoring my every move. I really don’t know what I’d do without them!
Jennifer says
My daughter’s laugh makes me happy.

I love this story! She looks very sweet (and very soft). I’m glad you found each other.
We are (slowly) renovating my house and next week we start on the bathrooms which has me very nervous but very excited (it’s the first time we’ve done this so I think we are a little naive about how that’s going to go hahaha)

I have two cats and both of them love to nap in my lap while I am reading. Of course, that means I have to continue reading until they decide to wake up.
