Guest Post: Who wins when a vampire crosses a dragon? by A.C. Arthur

October 31, 2019 by Kini Leave a Comment

This probably isn’t a very popular subject, but it’s Halloween so let’s have some fun!

One of the villains in my upcoming book, Awaken the Dragon, is a vampire whose been cast out from the royal vampire court. Warrick’s not worried though because he has a plan. His plan involves an African demigoddess who’s being guarded by a three-hundred-year-old dragon. Now, to anyone else this might seem like a problem, but not Warrick. Why? Because he’s a powerful vampire.

And as a powerful vampire he’s not in the least bit afraid of a dragon shifter, until he meets Theo Masters, the dragon emperor who’s hiding from his throne. I don’t have to tell you that the tension between these two is over the top and eventually turns into a street fight unlike any the world’s ever seen—even in this world of preternatural beings.

Awaken is the first book in my new Legion paranormal series where sexy dragon shifters run a security company and work to protect humans from preternatural forces—guarding a bride while she waits to get married isn’t actually a normal case for them, but the money’s good. These dragons are hot—physically and figuratively—they look good, fight hard and resist falling in love like it’s the plague. Unlike their nemesis the Royal Blood vampires who kill for fun, fight for money and know that their stronghold rests in pro-creating. In this instance, Warrick cannot wait to marry Shola and start building his own vampire army.

What I loved most about writing this book was weaving these three personalities into a story that was an unlikely love triangle and the beginning of a war that would bounce from one realm to the next. Setting the stage and building a world that will eventually host a massive battle was a must and Warrick, Theo and Shola were good starts.

I’ve never written vampires or dragons before, so when I was trying to come up with their flaws and weaknesses, I wondered how these two powerful beings could possibly have more going on besides the lives they were born into. For Warrick, he’s an outcast, turned away from his kind and it pisses him off. Instead of trying to fight all the vampires he feels are responsible for his situation, he figures he’ll just build an army and kill all his enemies. It’s a basic strategy that’s probably graced a lot of battle plans before, but when his emotions enter the scene things get sticky.

For the dragon who’s used to being the ruler of all—even though he refuses to take his title—coming in contact with a cocky vampire who dismisses him like a bad meal, is just the motive he needs to let the beast inside break free. Theo is dealing with his own demons but all his life he’s been able to compartmentalize, until he meets Shola and again, messy emotions take over.

Shola is the demigoddess who knows what she wants and how to get and ultimately brings this unlikely duo together, not that she’s a fan of having guys fight over or for her, but she has a job to do and she needs them both to relax and let her do it. In the end, as powerful as the vampire and the dragon are, it’s Shola who reigns supreme, as women often do.

Book Description: He’s sworn to protect the very entity she was born to kill…

Awaken the Dragon cover by A.C. Arthur

Next in line for the Drakon throne, Theo Masters is the most powerful half human, half dragon in the world. Royal power is the last thing he wants, however. He lives as a human and runs the Legion Security Company. But his new client—a mysterious, beautiful human from a small African village—and the unknown danger she faces may forever change the quiet life that he’s chosen.

Shola N’Gara exists to kill the dark spirit that is attempting to demolish her people. It’s her purpose and her destiny. The gorgeous protector who taunts her with his sexy voice and body is not—especially after he shifts into a magnificent black dragon with turquoise eyes.

A rise in demon activity and the brutal murders Theo’s agents have been reporting start to add up. Someone is making a play, and it’s big enough to change the course of the world as they know it. Now Shola must choose between her destiny and her heart. And Theo must decide if standing by the woman he’s fallen in love with is worth facing his father in a battle to the death.
