Jen’s Mini-Reviews: Books by Lexi C. Foss, Cate C. Wells, Emma Chase and Elena Armas

All of these books were really good! I love it when I’m on a reading streak.

First up, I stayed up very late reading Winter’s Arrow by Lexi C. Foss. This is the second book in the X-Clan (Omegaverse universe) series, which is part of the Zombie Year 2099 world. I had no clue what that was until I read this book. Now I am intrigued to read more. Winter’s Arrow can be read as a standalone. I have book three tee’d up for tonight. The world is post apocalypse, where there are shifters living in different sectors. It’s a dark Snow White retelling. Snow Frost is the h, and she’s a tough wolf, not the weak one some believe her to be. It’s super steamy, there is treachery, lies, an evil queen, the alpha wolves are hot and dominant and there are many fluids exchanged and flaunted. Publicly. You’ve been warned.

Run Posy Run by Cate C. Wells was recommended over and over in my darker romance groups who love the mafia trope. It totally delivered! Dario is the H. He’s the brilliant numbers guy in the mafia who can make or break an organization. He’s also a tad bit psycho. Posy is the h who has lived in his world and with various men there for years. She’s no angel, but she believes that Dario is THE one. There’s a major misunderstanding orchestrated by another bad guy and Dario runs Posy off. The trouble is, he really likes her. He can’t get over her. And when he realizes his mistake, he chases her down to get her back.

I listened to two sweet, smexy audio books by Emma Chase. Narrator is Zachary Webber! Getting Schooled (book one) and Getting Played (book two). In book one, we meet Garrett Daniels, the head football coach, former star high school quarterback and history teacher. And, Callie is the h and Garrett’s former high school girlfriend who moves back to town temporarily to help her parents recuperate from a car accident. Their romance isn’t angsty or heart wrenching, it just feels so right. Book two is about Dean Walker, one of Garrett’s coaches, his best friend, summertime drummer in a band and teacher of gifted students. He meets Lainey, single mom and content creator. They have one glorious night, after a concert, that results in a pregnancy. These books were so easy, charming, sunny and fun. They’re both part of the Audible+ membership.

Finally, The Spanish Love Deception by Elena Armas. This book is showing up all over booktok. Aaron Blackford is the man. We all need an Aaron in our life. Catalina and Aaron work together. They’re both engineers. Catalina is friendly and vivacious. Aaron is stiff and structured. Catalina is in a bind. She is going back to Spain for her sister’s wedding and needs a date. Her ex-boyfriend will be there, he’s engaged and is the brother of the groom. Catalina doesn’t want anyone feeling sorry for her, she wants to show up as the queen she is with a guy on her arm. Aaron volunteers as tribute. She doesn’t understand why, says no, eventually caves in. Wackiness ensues. Aaron is so incredibly hot. Smart guy. The right words. The right time. The right everything.
