I was so excited to get Electric Idol by Katee Robert. I LOVED Neon Gods and book two features the story of Psyche and Eros. Psyche is the sister of Persephone from book one, and Eros is the son of Aphrodite, the goddess of love. Who, as an aside, is not a nice loving individual. Aphrodite uses Eros to do her dirty work, killing things and such.

I continue to really love this world. The gods and goddesses are a hilarious, petty, back stabbing cast of characters. Olympus is a thoroughly modern city where the citizens are obsessed- in a Page 6 way- with the lives of the gods and goddesses.

While at a party, Psyche sees a bleeding Eros in the restroom and helps him. They both show some vulnerability and as they exit the restroom, the paparazzi catches them in what looks like an intimate knowing look. Backstory- this is bad for two big reasons. One, Psyche’s mother is Demeter who has been busy scheming to marry her off to the new Zeus. The previous Zeus died in book one and this is Zeus part two, his son. Secondly, the photo causes gossip and mayhem, which ticks off Eros’ mom. Her solution is to have Eros KILL Psyche. Very hardcore solution! Eros intends to do it…but there’s just something about Psyche that has him questioning his mom’s orders. Psyche sees something in him, some good, that no one else senses. To be fair, he’s really not a good guy. At all. But, his mom is a bit of a monster, so we can all blame bad parenting for quite a bit of his behavior.

To save Psyche, Eros concocts a plan to marry her so no one, including his mom, can kill her.

This was a fun, fast read. I enjoyed their banter and getting more glimpses of Psyche’s family dynamics with her sisters and mother. Like all books from this author…the steam is on point. :)  Very spicy, enjoyable story!  The Dark Olympus series is such a creative take on Greek Mythology. Can’t wait for book three!
