I am once again asking you to read Colleen Hoover. Reminders of Him was soooo good! I used my KU membership and clicked it as one of my 20 books each month. Then, bought the audible, for I think $1.99. Well worth it!
This was a heartbreaker!!! It’s hard not to read a book like this and imagine the situation happening in your own life. Kenna is the FMC, she was found responsible for the death of her boyfriend (Scotty) and served five years in prison. After Scotty died she found out she was pregnant, her daughter was born in prison, and Scotty’s parents took custody. The circumstances around Scotty’s death are just awful. It was a car accident, Kenna was trashed, she was driving, and while she was able to stumble home, Scotty did not. Like most Colleen Hoover books, there’s more to it than that, and it’s revealed late in the story. All around, it’s an incredibly sad thing to happen to any family. After her release, Kenna goes to the town where her daughter lives. Her entire goal is to see her daughter and get to know the child that she’s never met.
Enter Ledger, the MMC. When Kenna wanders into his bar, Ledger is intrigued by her. They don’t know each other but there’s some chemistry. Plot twist- Ledger is Kenna’s dead boyfriend’s BEST FRIEND. And, has been somewhat of a father figure to Kenna’s daughter.
Wow…talk about awkward small-town moments.
Ledger, rightfully so, has a terrible opinion of Kenna. And Kenna wasn’t looking for love, especially not with anyone connected to Scotty. The two of them build a fragile friendship and Ledger starts to understand more about Kenna and the night where it all went to hell.
I had been looking forward to this book for months and was not disappointed. It was amazing!! So emotional and with no right answers. How can his parents forgive her? How can Scotty’s best friend even THINK about being with her? Kenna works so hard for forgiveness and grace. The night of the accident…ugh….when I learned what went down, why Kenna did what she did…and poor Scotty. It ripped my heart out. I loved every character. I felt their pain deeply.
Ledger and Kenna are so sexy and sweet together. When they finally decide they were ok with each other, I wanted to hug someone. I felt their joy, too. I believe this story must’ve been such a hard one to write. So many ups and downs and again…how does one forgive and make peace with the tragedy of Scotty’s death? It made me think. A lot.
The audio version was terrific! The narrators captured the characters perfectly. If you want a good weepy, honest, romantic book, this one is it.
Grade A
