Wave Song by Emma Hamm

I’ve circled around this author on Amazon when looking up fantasy or paranormal romance. I figured this would be the perfect time to see if her writing appealed to me.

This is a merman/human fantasy romance, set in a dystopian type of world. The FMC, Alys, meets the MMC while traveling under the sea in her submarine. They are immediately drawn to each other and manage to cement a connection, despite the many, many things that should keep them apart.

This is a sweeter, softer romance. I enjoyed the relationship between the main protagonists, but to be honest the entire time I was reading I kept wondering how in the world this author would make this relationship work. Mainly because the MMC lives under the water and the FMC needs air to breathe….

This story was just okay for me. I enjoyed but wasn’t glued to the page.

Kings and Bones by Juliette Cross

This is another new to me author, who I’ve wanted to try for a while. I do believe that this was a perfect way to introduce myself to her writing. Kings and Bones is a short story set in a new world, with the first full book, The Wraith King, releasing later this year.

I was immediately intrigued. This is a world full of different types of fae, and it’s a lot to take in at first, but the premise was interesting and kept me reading. The story introduces Murgha, whose father loses her in a game of chance and the dark fae who wins her.

This is a fast read, and while I believe it must have been written after The Wraith King, as some of the events seem to take place after those (I’ll let you figure out what I’m talking about), I quite enjoyed myself. I will most definitely be picking up the first book in the series when it releases.

The Midnight Arrow by Zoey Draven

Honestly? I pre-ordered this anthology for the Zoey Draven story set in the Brides of the Kylorr universe. This author is one of my faves in the sci-fi/fantasy genre.

The Midnight Arrow features a lovely human healer, who lives a quiet life in the dark woods tending to her glowflies and making her potions. When she comes across an injured Kylorr male, near death, her healer’s oath means she must tend to him. So, she takes him back to her cottage and begins the healing process. She is immediately drawn to him, at first fighting her feelings and desire, only to finally give in and fall for the mysterious man.

But he has secrets, and his ultimate betrayal just might pull them apart.

Zoey Draven can do no wrong in my eyes. I love, love, love her voice. This short story fits perfectly into the world she’s built, and I was blown away by the amount of emotion packed into such a small page count. This is feels like a much longer novel. Just perfection, as always. So looking forward to the next book in this series.
