Stop SOPA/PIPA

January 17, 2012 by Mandi

SOPA (Stop Online Piracy Act) and PIPA (Protect Intellectual Property Act) has been on the news and around the internet a lot lately, and for good reason. It is stated to stop piracy, like illegal downloads of movies etc...but its broad terms may have severe consequences. Per this article on BBC: The US government and rights holders would have the right to seek court orders against any site accused of "enabling or facilitating" piracy. This could theoretically involve an entire Continue Reading

Where Are All The Nice PNR Heroes?

January 11, 2012 by Mandi

Yesterday on Twitter we were talking about Lothaire, and Jane asked, where are the nice guys in PNR? There does seem to be a lot of bad boys out there. I love to see a bad boy be brought down by love. Lothaire has walked the Earth for centuries, always getting his way. I am amused by how his heroine Ellie makes him learn how to be unselfish (somewhat). Dmitri from Nalini Singh’s Archangel’s Blade is another very naughty hero. So wicked. Again, I love how he stays wicked throughout the book. Continue Reading

Helyce’s Keeper Shelf

January 10, 2012 by Helyce

I’ve always loved to read, but it has only been about the last three years where I must admit to it becoming somewhat of an addiction. When I innocently commented to a friend that I had read the Twilight series and really enjoyed it, she said, “Well, if you liked that, you’d probably like some of these.” She proceeded to pull boxes out from storage in her garage and opened them to reveal so many books I was overwhelmed. The first series she gave me was the Argeneau Vampire series by Lynsay Continue Reading

The Unconvincing Declaration of Love

November 29, 2011 by Mandi

I’m getting increasingly frustrated by an unconvincing “I love you” in the novellas I am reading. I’m not saying I’ve never read an “I love you” in a full length book I didn’t believe in, but I’m tired of a rushed or forced declarations of love in the shorter stories. It is very jarring to me to be reading about a budding relationship and then a short time later it feels like the author just slapped on the declaration of love in the last page…why? Is it because that is what the majority of Continue Reading

Tori’s Rant: Carbon Copy Angels

July 13, 2011 by Tori

Lately I’ve noticed you can’t swing a bag in a bookstore without taking out a shelf of angel stories. YA, Adult, manga, coloring books, faux tattoos...the new crack is angels. Good, bad, bad but will become good, good but will become bad. They are all there. I recently read four angel stories and realized what it is about them that annoys me. Religion. I find the addition of Christianity (or any religion) as the main plot line to be, well, a mood killer. Bear with me. I have nothing Continue Reading

May Talks Twitter and the Authors we Tweet

July 11, 2011 by admin

I love twitter.  It reminds me of text messaging [which I also love] and honestly I’m not sure what I ever did without it!   I started out just tweeting about paper craft stuff (and following fellow artists), but soon I found that there was also a world of writers (and very cool readers and book bloggers like Miss Smexy!) that I could follow. I will never forget the first time an author replied to me – I freaked right out. You see, as a dedicated book lover I’m more likely Continue Reading
