Second First Impressions by Sally ThorneContemporary RomanceApril 13, 2021, by William MorrowReview by Angela It must be a very, very difficult thing for a debut novel to be a huge hit and beloved by many a romance reader. Expectations are set and readers want that same level of awesomeness over and over. Sally Thorne literally hit it out of the park with The Hating Game. Her sophomore effort, 99 Percent Mine, was just an okay read for me, mainly because the first chapter was so disjointed Continue Reading
Kini’s Final Top Ten
How it started How it's going Almost 5 years ago Mandi DM'ed me to ask me if I ever wanted to write a review for Smexy and I did. I wanted it so bad. Little did she know- I'd been an avid Smexy reader for quite some time. I knew that if Mandi, Tori, or Sheena loved a contemporary, I was going to love it too. And they asked ME to join the crew. To say I was excited was an understatement!Mandi and Tori taught me so much about blogging and reviewing. They were both adamant that we be honest Continue Reading
Sheena’s Most Anticipated Reads for 2020
I for one am soooo READY to ring in the New Year and (yet again!) embark on my quest to vanquish my TBRs and devour the books I am eagerly anticipating. MY 2020 romance reading forecast promises to be full of contemporary gems, paranormal activity-and I am determined to mark my return, back to my beloved Historicals- my all time fav genre, which took a back seat for me in 2019. My eyeballs are READY: Road to Salvation, Trilogy by Jamie Begley (Last Riders)- Book 1, Gavin's Song is out Continue Reading
Smexy’s Mid-Year Update: What we’ve read, what we’ve loved, what’s up next
Angela: Hey y'all! It's half way into 2019 and Goodreads says I've read 78 books. My goal is 125 this year, so at the moment I'm ahead of schedule. I'm trying to incorporate more books that have been sitting on my TBR shelf into my reading schedule, but I can't seem to stop requesting review ARCs. I have willpower issues, I know this. Lol. As you can see, I'm a genre jumper. I vary rarely read in the same genre two books in a row. I read a ton of fantasy, urban fantasy, science fiction, Continue Reading
Sunday Smexy Deals
It's Sunday and I heard some books were on sale. But I am only doing links, no pics or blurbs, because it's Sunday and I'm lazy. Polaris Rising by Jessie Mihalik- Angela and I did a joint review on this book early this year. It on huge discount for today only. One and Only and Three Little Words by Jenny Holiday are both on sale. If you love seeing great female friendships depicted in romance, I strongly recommend these books. Meet Cute by Helena Hunting- I still haven't read this, Continue Reading
Smexy Deals
99 Percent Mine by Sally Thorne- This is normally priced at $10+ so this is a great deal. I read it earlier this year and loved it! Darcy Barrett has undertaken a global survey of men. She’s travelled the world, and can categorically say that no one measures up to Tom Valeska, whose only flaw is that Darcy’s twin brother Jamie saw him first and claimed him forever as his best friend. Despite Darcy’s best efforts, Tom’s off limits and loyal to her brother, 99%. That’s the problem with Continue Reading
Angela’s Monday Mornings (Afternoon Edition)
99 Percent Mine by Sally ThorneContemporary RomanceJanuary 29, 2019 by William Morrow Favorite Quote: I say up to the ceiling, "Tell me I smell right." He senses the uncertainty underlying my sharp order. "You smell like the only person." Sally Thorne's sophomore release has garnered mixed reviews. I've seen quite a few people who loved it and some who had a hard time getting into the flow of the story. And I can see why. The first two chapters are disjointed and kind of odd. I Continue Reading
Review: 99 Percent Mine by Sally Thorne
The cover does not do justice to this story. It gave me the impression the book would be light and fluffy and that is not the case. This book is so very different from THG and it really worked for me. The first bit of the book was a bit slow for me but then it really picked up. And I could not put it down. I stayed up until 1:30 am reading it. It made a cry a little bit. Darcy Barrett is a sad girl. She isn’t eating properly. She isn’t taking medication for her chronic illness. She Continue Reading
Kini’s Friday Kisses
I finished two ARCs for upcoming releases, DNF one older book from my TBR, and I am 70% on another book. Snowy weekends allow lots of reading time. Overnight Sensation by Sarina Bowen- This is part of her Brooklyn Bruisers hockey series, which I have mostly enjoyed. This was a miss for me. Not enough that I DNF it, but I can’t say I truly enjoyed it. I did like seeing, even minimally, some of the characters from previous books. Heidi, the heroine, is kind of a Mary Sue. She is a Continue Reading
Review and Giveaway: The Hating Game by Sally Thorne
The Hating Game by Sally Thorne Released: August 9, 2016 Contemporary Romance William Morrow Reviewed by Mandi "Lucy," is all he can seem to say. "Lucy. How am I going to walk away from tonight? Seriously. How?" I get goosebumps. I'm wondering the same thing. I let my head drop to one side, and we kiss. I'm hoarse and breathless. "I'm gonna die tonight. Please take your pants off." "I want that embroidered on a pillow." True story - earlier this week I reviewed the amazing Burn Continue Reading
