Allie Therin's new book, Starcrossed, it out today. She stopped by to talk about the book. Thanks Allie! When Smexy Books invited me to blog on incorporating the supernatural into my Magic in Manhattan series, the first thing I thought of was my recent privilege of speaking to author Dana Staves’s class about my (still very new!) experiences with publishing. They asked great questions, including whether I thought world-building/fantasy elements have their own development arc the way the Continue Reading

Top Ten May 15, 2020
We are somehow at the middle of the month. Maryland started the week with winter and is ending it with summer. At least I will be able to spend some time on the deck with Kitty Scarlett this weekend. Here are some things that brought me joy on the internet this week. 10. I created what is possibly my best IG story to date. After author Janet Eckford replied to a picture I posted of Kitty Scarlett in her new cat tent. I made this gem. You have to click through because IG is weird about Continue Reading
Review: The Trouble with Hating You by Sajni Patel
Before I even talk about the story, I want to talk about the content warnings. The author’s note at the beginning of the book mentions “non-graphic references to sexual assault, death, and trauma.” And while I applaud the author and publisher for putting that in there, I don’t think it is enough. There is also emotional abuse and extreme slut shaming. There are at least two scenes that were incredibly upsetting and I think that other readers may have a hard time as well. In my opinion the scenes Continue Reading

Smexy Rewind May 11th
I didn't have any original content for today, so I thought I would take a peek back at what we were talking about on this day in previous years. I actually enjoying looking back at the posts and see what authors are still writing and how things have changes. This look back includes a RomBkLove post from last year and a post about Jacob from New Moon. 2019: Seasoned Romance #rombklove 2017: Review: Borrowed Souls by Chelsea Mueller 2016: Review: The Voodoo Killings by Kristi Continue Reading

10. This thread is amazing. Trust me, you want to read it. Emerson, my 11 year old, is on a bit of a wild ride with the @USPS and our local mail carrier, Doug. And, I think there’s a deeper message to it all.First, the backstory...— Hugh Weber (@hughweber) May 2, 2020 9. Is everyone aware of this? If you have kiddos at home I can't think of anyone better to read them a bedtime story. 8. Which would you choose? I would pick travel and most likely end up in an Ilona Andrews or Nalini Continue Reading
Kini’s Friday Kisses- Mini reviews for books by Sarah Morganthaler, Molly O’Keefe, Cecelia London and a couple of DNFs
I’ve read a lot of books that I haven’t talked about yet, so I am trying to catch up. The Tourist Attraction by Sarah Morganthaler- The premise to this sounds so cute. And the book delivers a lot of cute, almost too much for me. Snarky hero who hates tourists, nerdy, glasses wearing heroine who is a tourist, a blind dog that wears pajamas, a moose that loves a car, and a town full of quirky characters. Zoey travels to Alaska and meets Graham, a diner owner who really hates the tourist who Continue Reading
Sheena’s Six Smexy Reasons to Read, The Business of Lovers by Eric Jerome Dickey
Eric Jerome Dickey has been in my upper echelon of favorite of fave authors for more than a decade. His style is so accessible and provocative, for me, his novels always feel like a master class in romantic realism. The stories aren’t traditionally romantic, each couple’s journey to HEA is never easily linear boy meets girl- obvious misunderstanding- realization of faults to love declarations. In an EJD tale, characters live in bold and sometimes cold, color. More often than not, their choices Continue Reading
