Smexy’s Top Ten
News From Mandi: Had a sneak peek at Reflected in You by Sylvia Day. I liked it just as much as Bared to You, maybe even a little more. I thought their crazy, jealous and possessive relationship would get on my nerves (and omg is it crazy) but it worked for me. And now I want book three! Review is coming this week. Offside by Juliana Stone is the first book in a cute contemporary series featuring not only a hockey hero, but a hockey heroine. Thought the romance was sexy, but wanted a little more time with the hero and heroine together, otherwise cute. Review coming soon. Deep Desires by Charlotte Stein worked really well for me. I posted a review this week. Highly rec that one.
I read two m/m books this week. Fields of Gold by Dev Bentham is a cute book about an organic farmer and a man who is a mistress of sorts to an influential (and married) politician. I like this author’s voice. I think we don’t get to know Pete, the farmer as well as we could have, but I liked this one. Gold Digger by Aleksandr Voinov didn’t work so well for me. I had high hopes because it features Vadim’s son – Vadim is one of my favorite characters (he is in Special Forces). But it fell flat and I just didn’t like it. I already reviewed this one as well.
Hard Core by Jennifer Lowery was a little disappointing. I never connected with the hero and while it was a book set in the jungle with some crazy action, the sex scenes are really rushed. Review to come soon.
I read the quick novella Craving, which is a sequel to Cara McKenna’s Curio and I liked it a lot. So excited for these two to have a HEA. It’s coming soon I think!
Finally I read Heart of Danger by Lisa Marie Rice. I like her voice – totally over the top scenarios with big, bold characters. This one has telepathy which isn’t a favorite, but still a fun read.
News From May: This week was a blur! I’m honestly shocked that I read as much as I did. I would like to thank seemingly endless hours of soccer practice and dentist waiting rooms for the reading I got done.
The sorry: I had to DNF Her Forgotten Betrayal by Anna DeStefano. With a heroine who kept fainting (she has amnesia and clearly is delicate!), a hero from her past turned agent sent to get the dirt on her, a villain I guessed all the way back at the start, and yeah – it wasn’t working.
The bummer: Lisa Plumley’s My Favorite Witch. A world where giving a warlock a blow job is illegal and a heroine who is clueless and really boring plot added up to disappointment.
The jolly: Lisa Plumley’s Together For Christmas. Oh – this one totally could be one of those cheesy romantic comedy Christmas specials on ABC Family – and I loved it. Totally worked and after reading I bought all this author’s seasonal reads. I hope more of them capture the magic this one did. Review to come soon.
