Smexy’s Top Ten
News From Mandi: We didn’t do weekly wrap-up last week so I have lots of books – I’ll try to keep it brief.
The MIstress by Tiffany Reisz ends her Original Sinners series. I was a bit disappointed. Found there was a lot of rehashing and wasn’t a fan of something that happens at the end. Review coming closer to release date.
Sole Support by Kaje Harper is a m/m that has a virgin 37 year old hero. Well hello there! It’s a nice story of discovery and love. I had a harder time connecting with the other hero…I wish I had felt more chemistry coming from his side. But I liked my sweet virgin. Review coming this week.
I DNF’d The Billionaire’s Obsession by JS Scott. I could not get engaged in the story or the set-up. The heroine spoke and thought with a lot of exclamation points too which distracted me.
Wife in Name Only by Hayson Manning gives us an already married couple who are on the verge of divorce. I like reading stories where the couple is already established but going through troubling times. I had a hard time liking the hero – he is very abrasive and I’m not sure I believed in his redemption. I’ll review it this week.
I just finished Rock Her by Rachel Cross. The hero is a former rock star turned lawyer who meets the heroine when he is out surfing and they see someone drowning. She is a nurse who comes to the rescue. Then the media comes down on them. I had some problems with this one. The heroine was a little too weak for me – I wanted her to be more honest with her sister and the hero at times. I also had a very hard time picturing the hero as a lawyer. That didn’t come across well. Review coming soon.
Up next is Bound by Him by Red Garnier and Never Love a Scoundrel by Darcy Burke.
Tori’s News: Oy vey. Between cons, summer break, a dog with separation anxiety, and my 42nd birthday…it’s been a rough 2 weeks.
Tessa Dare’s Any Duchess Will Do was absolutely adorable. Loved the banter between our protagonists and the storyline went quite in depth when you realize it all happened in just one week.
I put Jenn Bennett’s Binding The Shadows to the side for right now. It’s not that the story isn’t good, I just can’t seem to to connect with it. I find my mind wandering as I read. I will pick up at a later date and try again.
Sweet Thing by Renee Carlino was a disappointment. While I loved the storyline and most of the characters; the heroine was such an ugly, annoying person…it completely ruined my overall enjoyment. Review.
I DNF’d The Art Of Love by Anne Whitney. I started out enjoying, but the characters felt young and acted younger than their ages. I also found the heroine to be one hot annoying mess.
Olivia Cunning’s Wicked Beat was a disappointment. Again, annoying heroine. Not a fan of game players and she was a pro. Also found the sex completely overpowered the already weak storyline.
Gaming For Keeps by Seleste deLaney is a cute nerdy gamer romance. A fast read with some interesting plot devices and muy smexy times. My review will appear in Sept. issue of RT Book Review Magazine.
Alexa Grace’s Profile Of Evil was a pretty good fast read. A well balanced romance suspense with an engaging mystery that really makes you think. My review will appear in Sept. issue of RT Book Review Magazine.
Safeword by A.J. Rose is the follow up to Power Exchange and in my opinion, even better. Loved seeing the results from the events in PE and the lengths our heroes go to stay together. Plenty of suspense mixes with the romance for a well plotted read. Plus, the cover. OMG. ZOMG. Review to come.
Heart Of Obsidian by Nalini Singh. Exceptional. I really can’t add anything new to what everyone else has said about this book. All I can say is Singh went above and beyond what I expected and I am a complete slave to this series.
The Fire & Frost anthology by Meljean Brook, Jessica Sims, and Carolyn Crane was a winner in my book with three delightful romantic shorts. Review.
Georgia Cates’ Beauty From Surrenderwas not as well done as the first one but still a good read. I found the sex overpowered the story and I found the reunion scene came much too early for me.
This weekend has me celebrating my bday AND Father’s Day AND getting ready for the kid’s bday. I’m also reading In Too Deep by Michelle Kemper Brownlow, No Reservations by Stephanie Julian (loved book one), and The Proposition by Jennifer Lyon.
