News from Mandi: I finally feel like I have time to read again! Bye bye holidays! True Pretenses by Rose Lerner is a really great historical romance. The heroine is a heiress who needs to marry to have access to her money. The hero is a swindler. It’s smart and fresh and very sexy. I can’t say enough about this one. Review coming this week.
Yesterday I DNF’d Convincing the Rancher by Claire McEwen. The hero owns a ranch, the heroine is from the big city and wants him to let her company put up a wind energy plant. They realize they had a one night stand two years ago. I needed more on their relationship and less on the wind farm stuff. It didn’t keep my interest.
I’m currently reading Party Lines by Emma Barry and it’s so far a really great read. I’m loving the chemistry between h/h and the overall story. I’m about 1/3 through. I’ll report back!
News From Tori: I’m still in recovery from the holidays. I’ve been doing a re read of the Kate Daniels series by Ilona Andrews. They comfort me.
C.T. Adams, one half of the Cat Adams writing team, is going solo with a new urban fantasy series slated to release in March 2015. The Exile is a dark uf that pits an earth bound fae princess against family when her father’s kingdom is under attack and she is unwillingly made a potential successor to his throne. Not a bad start. Interesting world building and character dynamics. A solid base and storyline. A few issues that may settle as they play out. I’m looking forward to seeing what book two brings to the table. My review will appear in the MAR issue of RT Books Reviews Magazine.
Has from The Book Pushers told me about Ann Mayburn’s MC series-Iron Horse. She said the cray cray was out there and sexual hijinks were HAWT. She was right. Book One-Exquisite Trouble-introduces us to the hero and heroine and sets up what looks to be a long term storyline. An extremely sexy alpha biker, a heroine who may be a submissive in the bedroom but will kick your arse out of it, and a slew of criminals looking to kill them makes for some wild exciting action. Almost campy in presentation; the sex is explicit, the talk is dirty, and the storyline is waaaaayyyyy out there. I had fun reading and went straight into book two-Exquisite Danger. Book two is all about the main conflict and letting our hero and heroine get to know one another outside of the intense sexual glow; though the sexual games between them only heat up more as they learn to trust each other implicably. Our heroine seems to toughen up while the hero takes his chest beating down a notch. The action and violence picks up and while the immediate conflict is resolved, the long term conflict is still going strong. I’m looking forward to book three.
Hopefully after this weekend and the kid goes back to school, I can get myself back in gear and back to reading.
