News from Mandi: While on vacation I read The Professional and The Master by Kresley Cole – then immediately pre-ordered The Player. Erotic, super dirty fun – with VERY alpha/controlling heroes – but heroines who can totally handle them. Just a fun way to spend a few hours reading.
Sadly, getting on a shuttle bus at Disney at 7am every morning for a week didn’t allow any time for me to read. *shakes fist at Mickey!*
But now that I’m home – I’ve started Crash by Drew Jordan – I’m a sucker for H/H to be stuck in a reclusive cabin. Plus it’s in Alaska and the hero is a mountain man or something. But – the pub did tell me no HEA in book one, we have to wait for book two. I’ve only just started so I’ll report back.
News From Tori: Once Upon A Marquess by Courtney Milan The first in Milan’s Worth Saga is a sensual, bittersweet second chance romance between childhood sweethearts who were separated when the hero helped to convict the heroine’s brother and father of treason.
Final Target by Zara Keane–A spin off her BallyBeg series, Keane brings us Lars Delaney, the sexy criminal baby daddy of Clio Havlin, the heroine in Love and Shamrocks. Sexy, humorous, and action packed, this romance thriller gives us spies, danger, and some smoking sex scenes. Review to come.
Shadow Rites by Faith Hunter–The 10th installment is jam packed with action, suspense, and plenty of magic with a steady influx of humor, romance and a nice to look at the elements that make up family. Review to come.
Brokedown Cowboy by Maisey Yates–Best friends to lovers is a favorite trope and Yates does a fabulous job of facilitating a romance between a grief stricken widow and his best friend.
Logan Kade by Tijan– AAARRRGGGGG I have waited a long time for Logan’s story and was insanely happy with it for 80%. The Tijan pulled the rug out from under me and I’m still recovering. Review to come.
Lassoing The Virgin Mail Order Bride by Alexa Riley A sweet, sexy, humorous erotic niblet with a supa alpha cowboy a sassy mail order bride who sends him into a tailspin. A fun, fast read.
White Tiger by Jennifer Ashley–Fans will cheer to get Kendrick’s story. Similar in some ways to Tiger’s story, this loner uncollared tiger meets his perfect mate..if he’s willing to take the chance. Review to come.
Up on the kindle this weekend is Jill Mansell’s The One You Really Want.
News from Kini: I found some great reads on Scribd this week.
Truth of Beard by Penny Reid B+ I really like her voice. I find her humor amusing. I love that her heroines are always smart and sometimes awkward. Her heroes are alpha men with some beta thrown in there. I loved how Jess got the twins mistaken. Duane was a great match for Jess. I look forward to reading more in this series.
US by Sarina Bowen and Elle Kennedy B+ I love this writing duo. I try to stay away from NA because sometimes reading about college age kids weirds me out, but I make the exception for this duo. I read HIM when it came out and loved Wes and Jamie. I enjoyed reading about their next step. Wes in the NHL, Jamie working as a coach. I felt their pain as they navigated through their lives and having to hide their true selves. The sex was pretty hot. I adored the annoying teammate/neighbor, Blake. I want his book now.
Not a Mistake by Amber Belldene B I saw the author promo this on Twitter a while back and was intrigued. Priests in love? With open door love scenes? Jordan and Dominic are both priests. They have one-night sex after she graduates seminary and she gets pregnant. They aren’t together but try to be for the sake of the baby. I really like how their religion was a thing in their lives, but not like THE THING. I hope that makes sense. I don’t mind religion in my romance, but I am not interested in inspirational romance.
Not from Scribd
Offensive Behavior by Ainslie Paton A- I really like this author’s voice. This is slightly NAish and has a wealthy hero who is a virgin. Heroine used to be an Olympic gymnast and is now a stripper. I loved this book. It was fun, she is snarky and doesn’t cut him any slack. It was emotional but not too angsty. And of course it was sexy.
Dream with Me by Elyssa Patrick B- Evie and Griff are on the cusp of graduating and fall into a one night stand. He is a virgin but it doesn’t come up at all during their first sexy time as Griff is a sex God. That was weird for me. It was a cute story but something was just a little off for me.
Maverick by Juliana Stone C This is the third in a series about a the Simon family. It was kind of a meh read. Maverick is a singer songwriter. Charlie is a mechanic. There are so many people in the Simon family and across the author’s books, it is hard to keep track and I think this took away from the h/h from this book.
So Sweet by Rebekah Weatherspoon B- This was a super quick, light, HOT read. Kayla needs cash and signs up for a dating type service where she becomes the sugar baby for Michael. It’s pretty much instalove and there is some “butt stuff.” It was cute and a great read to relax on a Friday night.
I am not organized enough to plan out what I am going to read next, but if I’m lucky the heroine will be older than 25.
