Jen’s Mini Reviews: Books by Debra Anastasia, A. Jade, and Ella Maise

February 25, 2022 by Jen 4 Comments

I’m going to review these in order with the best being last. Here we go! First up is Mercy by Debra Anastasia. New author to me that I listened to over the course of several days. Zachery Webber and Muffy Newtown are the narrators. I would listen to Webber read the dictionary. That’s how much I love his voice. Newtown didn’t do it for me, she’s sort of too breathless and didn’t feel like the right voice for her character.  Main characters Phoenix (nickname - Nix) and Becca first meet Continue Reading

Audio Book Reviews: A Thousand Boy Kisses by Tillie Cole and Ugly Love by Colleen Hoover

February 18, 2022 by Jen 1 Comment

These books are vastly different and both were terrific. First up is A Thousand Boy Kisses by Tillie Cole. So, “love” may not be exactly the right word to describe my listening experience. I don’t normally gravitate to the super sad books. But Rune and Poppy’s story was addicting to me and I pushed through the tears.  A Thousand Boy Kisses is a YA tearjerker that walks the line of being so saccharine that it’s almost cringey. The thousand kisses referenced in the title are a jar of Continue Reading

Review: Scarred by Emily McIntire

February 17, 2022 by Jen 6 Comments

Scarred by Emily McIntireFairytale Romance, Historical RomanceJanuary 4, 2022 Review by Jen Scarred by Emily McIntire is a dark romance inspired by the Lion King. The author’s first book in this series (saying that lightly, as they really aren’t tied to each other) is Hooked, inspired by Peter Pan. After reading this one, Hooked is on my TBR list! We have two brothers. One, Michael Faasa II, has been freshly kinged and the other, Tristan Faasa, is the hot evil prince with the Continue Reading

This Week on TikTok

Happy Weekend! It’s 80 today in Northern CA and life is good. I’m reading The Words by A. Jade and listening to Ugly Love by Colleen Hoover. Both are excellent! Spring Break is hitting early this year for my daughter’s college and I’m mulling over quick getaways. If you have any ideas- hit me up! #5 Is anyone watching the Olympics? I’m just not into it this time. Except for this…guessing if the figure skating couples are married, dating, friends or siblings. That hand on the back of her head Continue Reading

Review: Manacled by SenLinYu

February 7, 2022 by Jen 4 Comments

Manacled by SenLinYuHarry Potter fanfic2018Review by Jen This was my first fanfic. I’ve never had ANY DESIRE to read one. A romance reading friend raved about it and I decided to give it a try. First, if you’re not familiar with fanfic, it’s when a writer uses characters and/or a published popular story, then creates their own story based on the original work. Manacled is a Harry Potter fanfic that centers on Draco Malfoy and Hermione Granger. Or, as readers who ship them would say, Continue Reading

Audio Book Review: Good Girl Complex by Elle Kennedy

February 3, 2022 by Jen 2 Comments

Good Girl Complex by Elle KennedyContemporary RomanceFebruary 1, 2022Macmillan AudioARCReview by Jen If the series Outer Banks and the book, After, had a baby…it would be Good Girl Complex by Elle Kennedy. Kennedy is one of my favorite authors, and this book, while predictable, hit all the right spots for me.  The story takes place in a college beach town. We have the townies (Pogues for you Outer Banks fans) and the rich college kids. Mackenzie is a Continue Reading

Jen’s Mini Audio Book Reviews: Books by Madeline Miller and Sarah Ready

January 21, 2022 by Jen 1 Comment

Both of these books were winners! So very different, but excellent in their own ways. The Song of Achilles by Madeline Miller was on my TBR list for a long time. This book has great buzz and it absolutely lived up to the hype!! I will be recommending this to everyone I meet. I cried at the end. Right up to the last moment I thought it was going to end a certain way and it went in another direction. The writing is so beautiful and tugged at all of my emotions.  The book is about one of Continue Reading

Review: Electric Idol by Katee Robert

Electric Idol by Katee RobertFantasy Erotica1/18/2022 by Sourcebooks CasablancaARC Reviewed by Jen I was so excited to get Electric Idol by Katee Robert. I LOVED Neon Gods and book two features the story of Psyche and Eros. Psyche is the sister of Persephone from book one, and Eros is the son of Aphrodite, the goddess of love. Who, as an aside, is not a nice loving individual. Aphrodite uses Eros to do her dirty work, killing things and such.   I continue to really love this Continue Reading

Happy New Year! Can we still say that? I’m going to believe it’s relevant for at least a few more days. I just finished listening to The Song of Achilles by Madeline Miller. Wow…it was excellent! My fave audio book ever!!! I’m now listening to Josh and Gemma Make a Baby. I’m surprised at how much I’m enjoying it. There are some hilarious moments, almost slapstick, which isn’t usually my thing. It has me giggling like a crazy woman on my morning walks. And, don’t judge me…but I’m reading a Harry Continue Reading

The Plight Before Christmas by Kate StewartHoliday FictionDecember 17, 2021, by KLS Press, LLC Review by Jen Many of us are still packing away our Christmas decorations and wondering if those red throw pillows can stick around through Valentine’s Day. I have one last bit of Christmas joy you must read!! The Plight Before Christmas by Kate Stewart is a holiday romance, but I swear it’s perfect year round.  Kate Stewart is one of my fave authors and she does it again with this Continue Reading
