News from Mandi: I read and absolutely adored The Story Guy by Mary Ann Rivers. Her debut novella is full of angst, emotion, some humor and a heroine and hero that made me smile and tear up. I’ll be reviewing this week.
I DNF’d Awakening by Serena Grey. I didn’t like the way the story was written or how the hero and heroine meet and get together. Not for me.
Another one I had a lot of problems with was Thursday Nights by Lisa Paul. I felt no true emotion or chemistry between the hero and heroine, and a supporting character has way too much page time. I can’t recommend this one.
Fleet Week by Melody Montclair takes place in NYC with a sailor hero. Cute concept. I enjoyed the heroine who is new to NYC and a bit shy. She meets a the hero at a bar and things progress from there. I wish we had gotten to know the hero more…he comes across as kind of flat. Review to come.
My week ended with two wonderful books. The Seduction Hypothesis by Delphine Dryden is a ‘Nerd BDSM’ romance done well. The hero is adorable and the heroine is a lot of fun. Review coming.
Making it Last by Ruthie Knox is a really well done novella featuring a hero and heroine who have been married for ten years and need to reconnect. For fans of this author, it’s the same Tony and Amber from Flirting with Disaster – but just ten years later. I LOVE when an author gives us an already established couple in trouble. She does a really nice job with this. Review coming.
Tori’s News: Real life has interfered with my reading this week so I didn’t get much done. DANG YOU REAL LIFE!!
This Is W.A.R by Lisa Roecker is a YA mystery that follows a group of girls who seek revenge against a pair of rich brothers when one of their friends is mysteriously killed. Four immature narrators made for some confusing dialogue and scenes. Review to come.
Yasmine Galehorn’s Night Vision blew me away. Book four in her Indigo series picks up where book three left off and once again takes us on an action packed journey of love, hate, and revenge, and war as supernatural entities continue their struggle for domination. A fantastic series that ranks high on my list of must read urban fantasy. Review to come.
A Return Engagement by Stephanie Laurens is a sweet romantic novella that offers up new love and old love. This is a re release. It was originally released in the anthology-Royal Bridemaids. Review to come.
The Wicked by Thea Harrison is a novella set in her Elder Series. Wonderful protagonists and a well plotted romance balances well with the mystery; using old friends to introduce future storylines.
Razer’s Ride by Jamie Begley was a decent read as long as you suspend belief and read it like the fiction it is. Lots of sex, cheesiness, and a few scenes that would have had me cutting a bish…I did like that the women are extremely empowered in here and often scarier than the men and Begley wasn’t glomming SOA while writing.
This weekend I will be reading True Love by Jude Deveraux and MacReive by Kresley Cole.
News from May: This week I read and was very disappointed by The Closer. I don’t often read harlequin novellas but I like Rhonda Nelson- or rather I used to so I picked this up. A full review to come but basically it was insta-love of perfect bodied people. Boring.
Now I’m working on the Marquess of Cake by Heather Hiestand and it’s a bit slow but intriguing. The Marquess has some kind of blood sugar level issues as well as killer sweet tooth and heroine is daughter of merchant who is now a sir and trying to marry her off despite her desire to work. A review to come for this- I hope it’s good!

Great that the Thea Harrison novella is good, that came out the same day as kresley cole’s macrieve (which uncharacteristically was lame) so I put it off, and now I need a palate cleanser.

Hi Tori, I love Yasmine Galenorn books, but this series is just too dark and disturbing for me. I just read the first book, and decided, no more. Glad you love it though.
