News from Tori: News From Tori: Not much happening here. Still working on the house renovations. Had to go shopping with T. 0_o He sucks to shop with but he bought me Taco Bell so I forgave him.
Lots of good releases this week and some surprising finds.
Beyond Solitude by Kit Rocha-Ahhhhh. Rocha brings allllll the heat and then some with this dirty little novella. Review.
I Survived Seattle by JK Hogan-A sexy M/M rom com though I felt the characters struggled to define themselves in the story. Review to come.
The King by JR Ward-I liked it. On going long reaching storylines were wrapped up and we learn some interesting clues towards future romantic couples. I enjoyed seeing Wrath and Beth finally resolve some differences and the advancement in his ruling. The route Ward took was interesting and it worked. Layla and Xcor need their story and I hope it’s soon. Saxton needs some love, Ward. That is all. I wish we had had more interaction with the other brothers and their mates-I miss spending time with them. I did feel the story was slow to start and needed tightening up. Also, the name dropping is getting worse.
Fool Me Twice by Meredith Duran-Such a wonderful emotional romance. Tres adore. The heroine was such a strong intelligent woman. I loved her snark, courage, and ability to forgive.
Absolution by Angela Louise McGurk-A dark urban fantasy that offers a fresh look at vampires and their manipulations. Review to come.
Raphael and Japhil by D.B. Reynolds-Dark and chocked full of action and smexy times. I can’t believe I waited so long to read.
Saugatuck Summer by Amelia Gromley-A sweet M/M rom com that explores a young man’s coming of age. Review to come.
The Outlaw’s Obsession by Jenika Snow– Growly sexy bikers-check. A full fledged MC with controversy-check. Shifters-check. Violence-check. Raunchy sexy times-check. Tori approved!
Falling For The Enemy by Sam Crescent– I normally enjoy Crescent’s books but this one failed to engage. Underdeveloped characters, bad dialogue, and an uneven storyline made this a chore to read. I think I will stay with the MC books.
Deliver by Pam Goodwin– I DNF’d. Way too many errors and it’s hard for me to buy into a female human trafficker.
This weekend I’m reading Meljean Brooks first 3 books in The Kraken King serial. Also on the kindle is Sierra Dean’s latest Secret McQueen and hopefully I can finally read my Amish romance suspense by Karen Harper.
News From Helyce: I have failed my end of 2013 resolutions by missing several weeks of wrap ups in the first three months of the year. For my side of it-all I can claim is a major reading slump for some reason I have yet to define and the fact that the daily grind that is my life has gotten in the way. When your brain is bogged down with all that crap, escaping life through a good book just does not happen.
Beyond Pain by Kit Rocha – When Beyond Jealousy came out, I realized that I had not read Beyond Pain and my anal sense of reading in order kicked in and I had to read this first. I really do enjoy the post apocalyptic word the author has created. I didn’t think this would be my kind of book, but as I’ve followed along, the underlying sense of family and loyalty come through. And it’s sexy hot on all levels. I look forward to reading Beyond Jealousy as soon as I can fit it in!
Tough Love by Heidi Cullinan – Because I enjoyed the previous two books in this series, I looked forward to read this on and accepted it for review. Unfortunately-this one took me way out of my comfort zone with the BDSM. It’s coming up for review on 4/9-so I won’t get into details here. I liked the interaction with the previous couples, and it somewhat saved the read for me-but if this is the way the series is turning it may not be for me.
Spencer by J.P. Barnaby – Two yeas ago I read Aaron by J.P. Barnaby. The story just about broke my heart so when I learned the author had written a follow up featuring this couple again I had to read it. This one is full of the same strong emotions that affect not only our victim but his family and all his loved ones. We get closure on some issues and we see both Aaron and Spencer gain strength in themselves as they move into adulthood and have to make really difficult decisions. Review to come.
The King by J.R. Ward – Like many of you, I read the King this week. I couldn’t stop myself-even though it will totally throw off my review reading schedule. It’s just one of those things that is beyond my control. I actually only finished it about a half hour ago, so I’m still digesting. I did enjoy it. I felt that it was a bridge book of sorts-but I did like the focus on Wrath and Beth. But like many of you-I would have loved more interaction with the Brothers and little hints of where they were in their lives would have gone a long way in raising my appreciation of this installment. Sadly, all I can think about now is that it’ll be a whole year before we visit with our beloved fictional family again.

I do want to read the King too. Not sure now if I will wait for the paperback or splurge on an ebook first.
