Smexy’s Top Ten
News from Mandi: Gaming For Keeps by Seleste DeLaney is a nerdy-ish type contemporary about two online gamers who meet at a convention. The hero is not only a gamer but he is also a spy for a secret organization and he has to take down an illegal arms trader at the gaming convention. I really liked both the hero and the heroine. My complaint is that this book is too short – too short to let the romance develop and too short to let the suspense run its course. Otherwise cute. Review coming.
Guarded Desires by Lexxie Couper is a M/M – movie star falls for bodyguard romance. How can you resist? The emotions in this book are very over the top..everything is intense and mind blowing. The movie star hero has never been attracted to men before so he is shocked to be attracted to his bi-sexual bodyguard. The sex scenes in this book are pretty hot. The over the top stuff got a bit old and I have to say the personal assistant in this book did something that made me roll my eyes and ruined part of the story for me. Otherwise a fun book. Review coming.
A Mating Dance by Lia Davis is a M/M/F shifter romance. I liked the protagonists and I liked the shifter politics in it. I was a bit confused by the number of characters in it and keeping everyone straight. I do wish the sex scenes had been longer and more detailed. They fly by so quick….and as this is a menage, I think had they been longer so we could have seen their romance develop more…it would have helped the story out. I did like the M/M action though and then thought the heroine fit in nicely. Review coming.
The Redemption of Kayden and Callie by Jessica Sorensen was so good. I just wanted to roll around in all the angst. And there is a lot of angst y’all. Drama. Emotional. Best of all – I’m completely intrigued by Luke (a supporting character) and his book is next. Squeak! I like this series. Super angsty fun.
Tori’s News: Monica Murphy’s Crave is the first in a trilogy where three billionaire best friends place on extraordinary bet on matters of the heart. Crave is a fast paced romance with plenty of angst and emotion as our hero and heroine fight their past in order to secure their future. Enjoyable except the lack of communication gets annoying. Review to come.
Savor You by Emily Snow is a novella in her new spin off of her Devoured series. It occurs right after the events in Devoured. Revolving around Luca’s sister Kylie and the lead bass guitarist for the band, Wyatt, we get a racy romantic contemp with plenty of angst. Lots of "remember when…" moments that go far in explaining their problems. My only concern is I never really felt they dealt with their problems; merely kept rehashing them. Curious to see if their HFN can become and HEA.
Rain Shadow by Cheryl St. James was a blogger rec that I enjoyed. An old fashion historical romance between an Indian woman who is part of the Wild Bill Hickok show and an amish/PA dutch widower. A fast predictable read.
Boomtown by Lani Lynn Vale is an military/mc themed romance contemporary that has a lot of potential. Took a few chapters to get settle, but once it does, the storylines and characters begin to engage you. The heroine and her best friend were hilarious. Needs some serious editing and the formatting is terrible, though.
Mandi recommended The Story Guy by Mary Ann Rivers and I’m so glad she did. An emotional love story that appeals to the romantic in all of us. Well defined characters and a heart aching storyline will leave you wanting more once you reach the end.
The Redemption of Callie and Kayden by Jessica Sorensen is a heartbreaking yet hopeful NA that picks up right where book one left off. A damaged hero and heroine will keep you on the edge as you watch them fight for their love and for justice when secrets from both their pasts come to light. Review to come.
Confessions Of An Almost Girlfriend by Louise Rozett is the second book in her coming of age YA and picks up with our heroine who is now a sophomore. An enjoyable abet serious YA that deals with issues such as sex, drinking. bullying, and abuse. I liked that Rose is becoming more comfortable in her skin and realises that life is but a series of events. Review to come.
Lexxi Callahan’s Sweetened With a Kiss is a cute fast paced rom com. I didn’t like the hero and heroine at first but once the predictable misconceptions were cleared up, they grew on me.
Always On The Run by Crystal Bowling had me giggling throughout when two commitment wary people make a pact to fake date to keep their families off their backs. The heroine is delightfully snarky and the hero is a swoon worthy beta. I adored them both.
Gwynneth Ever After by Linda Poitevin is a sweet cinderella-esque romance between a single mom and a Hollywood star. The heroine’s wariness of the hero wore on me a little but you can’t fault her the reasons. Review to come.
The Gentleman’s Keeper by Bonnie Dee and Summer Devon is a nice historical mm romance centering around family.. Review to come.
Jude Deveraux’s True Love was a disappointment for me. I found the multiple plot lines, numerous characters, and lackluster romance confusing and uninspiring. Review to come.
Heading to the beach for a week Saturday. Woo to the hoo. I am currently reading Lorelei James Redneck Romeo.
