Helpless Females Need Not Apply

September 6, 2012 by admin

By May. As a kid I loved Wonder Woman, and as an adult I’ve already shown my girls that original series as well (and they loved it too). Rainbow Brite, She-Ra, Princess Tiana, Mulan, and now Merida too. There’s a lot of awesome fictional females that rule in this house and for good reason – who wants a helpless heroine? Personally, I will take emotionally stunted, physically disabled, vulnerable, unpredictable, crazy, killer, badass, potty mouthed, super nice, or even insecure heroines but do Continue Reading

Smexy’s Top Ten–August 31

August 31, 2012 by Mandi

10. Do you hear that sound? That is the glorious sound of my children in school. They’ve already brought home sore throat germs but that’s okay!  *pours more whiskey*   9. One of my favorite books is Tigers and Devils by Sean Kennedy. It’s just adorable and romantic and I lurve it so. I somehow missed two things – first of all, Tigers and Devils is being rereleased today with a few slight changes and a slightly revised ending (read more at his blog) AND!!! Sean Kennedy is writing a Continue Reading

Review and Giveaway: Gunmetal Magic by Ilona Andrews

July 30, 2012 by Tori

Gunmetal Magic (Kate Daniels #5.5) by Ilona Andrews Urban Fantasy July 31, 2012 Ace Reviewed by Tori Favorite Quote: “From the moment I was born, I learned I had two choices: to fight or to die.” Andrea made a choice to remain with the Order instead of riding with Kate to the Pack when the shifters call for help. In doing this, she sealed her fate with the boudas and with her lover, Raphael. Months later, Andrea is standing on the corner of depression and heartbreak. Having been Continue Reading

Smexy’s Top Ten–April 27th

  10. THIS sums up every HEA in a romance book and makes me smile. (Well, the m/f HEA’s. There are others. Some involving three fingers.)  (Thanks Claudia)   9. In case you haven’t entered yet, Ilona Andrews is giving away two arcs of Gunmetal Magic on their blog (book releases 7/31). This will be Andrea’s book, in her Kate Daniel’s series. So go enter! Contest ends tomorrow. 8. This coming Tuesday, Larissa Ione will be releasing The Lords of Deliverance Compendium (in Continue Reading

Smexy’s Top Ten–March 16

10. Put ‘em up!! And proceed carefully through this top ten. (PS – the very top of this picture could be a dangly? A shadow? Probably best not to look too close) (Source – awesome tumblr, nsfw)   9. JR Ward is putting up daily quotes from Lover Reborn (out 3/27) on her Facebook. Her latest: As everything went dark, Vishous dematerialized on top of the guy, taking him down and grinding his face into the tile. "I'm going to kill you now-" "No," Wrath ordered. "Not until we know Continue Reading

Smexy’s Top Ten–March 9th

10. This is my “fun read” this week, St. Nacho’s by ZA Maxfield. I think the only other story I’ve read by her is her short in a Carina Press holiday anthology (which I liked). I met her at AAD last year she is a lot of fun. I’m excited to finally be starting this book. Any other ZA Maxfield recs? 9.Cute picture for a shirt, yes? This and many other book related products can be found at a site called, Gone Reading. In their words: Gone Reading International LLC, a philanthropic enterprise Continue Reading

Smexy’s Top Ten–February 24th

10. Oh wait, we aren’t suppose to have wine with breakfast? 9. Yes, that is a cartoon picture of Ilona Andrews with horns. I didn’t make it! She has it on her blog. I used it because the cover of Gunmetal Magic has not yet been released, but they have put chapter one on their blog! This will be Andrea’s book (in the Kate Daniels world – we are not getting a Kate Daniels book in 2012. It’s okay, we can all hold hands and cry a little together) No, I’m excited for this book – I really like Continue Reading

Mandi’s Favorite Books of 2011

December 28, 2011 by Mandi

I’ve about 280 books this year, and it just so happens that 20 of them were five star reads for me. Some of them are books released prior to 2011, but all of them were read this year. Contemporary: Sweet as Sin by Inez Kelley (Review) This book is surprisingly dark with such a tortured hero. He is brutal and not always easy to like, but written so well. The Reluctant Nude by Meg Maguire (Review) This book hit me hard. So many emotions went through me as I read and it is one of Continue Reading

May’s Favorite Books of 2011

December 27, 2011 by admin

This is not a list of all the good books I read this year, not even all the great books I read this year. This is a list of my personal favorite books I read in 2011. I have to admit that I have a very healthy TBR pile, and more “best” reads could very well be lurking in there. Some of my favorite authors are not on this list because I did not read a “best ever I loved it sooo much” book from them this year, which is a bummer. Also disappointing me is that I do not have a lot of strong Continue Reading
